Cat suddenly stopped using litter tray, why?

Our cat is 2, he has been neutered and we have in the past had the odd sneaky poo where it's not supposed to be but now he is flat out refusing.

It has been a week and I am at my wits end. He has two litter trays, we had been using wood pellet litter but I have tried two others in the last week and no dice.

We brought him to the vet who declared him healthy. He still will not use the litter tray for either pees or poos. Nothing has changed at home, no new pets, no new people, no changes at all except him refusing.

Please someone give me a miracle solution to this?

I meant to add we went back to basics and tried confining him to one room with just his tray, food, water, toys and nope, still won't use it

So where is he doing it?

On the floor, on the rug, on the couch, on the wash basket, everywhere and any where!

How odd! My first thought was health problem, but you say it's definitely not that.

Well in your shoes I would be forcing him to use a tray to hope that he 'remembers' that's what he should do. How do you force a cat I hear you say? There is only one way and it's a method we sometimes use when cats just don't understand litter trays. Unfortunately it will require a bit of expense.

You will need a large dog crate (Pets at Home sell them for example). Then you give him a bed and make a tiny area for food and water. Then fill the rest of the crate with litter trays. It will probably be easier to use a few smaller ones to fit all the space properly. So he will just have a small bed and the rest of the space is litter tray. He will then literally have no option but to use the tray. I would keep him in it for at least a week, maybe 10 days. If that doesn't do the trick I've no idea what would.

And of course a couple of Feliway diffusers are often useful for behavioural issues should can't hurt.

Is it the litter? Mine hates wood litter too.

Ive just changed mine to sainsburys version of Catsan and they love it. Theyve started to bury their poo for the first time ever. Maybe give that a go?
