Sure flap not working

Has anyone had problems with their Sure Flap cat flap?
We installed ours 2 week’s ago but I’m not convinced it recognises her microchip. She has been learning to use it so we have had it propped open but when she does put her head in the tunnel the catch doesn’t seem to respond. I have done the learning mode thing. Just not convinced whether it’s just that she’s still learning or it doesn’t open.

When the cat sticks her head in the hole, the door will 'click' and she can push it open with her head. It doesn't open for her.

You can check by holding her and pushing her through. If it's not working, the door won't open even with pushing.

Their customer service is great so you can always ring them for advice.

Yes, they have brilliant customer service. I thought mine was working once and it was my fault - hadn’t put the batteries in properly. Give them a ring and they’ll talk you through it

I am still contemplating putting in a cat flap (had some good advice on here previously)

Do you have a metal lined door ? we do and it does sometimes interfere with the signal so you have to cut a bigger hole

Hookedoncatnip · 14/01/2018 20:35

Sorry I meant that it doesn’t unlock for her @toomanycreambuns not that it automatically opens for her. That would be posh Grin

It is a metal door but my husband bought the extra panel thing to go with it.

One of my cats is spectacularly awkward, and a bit dim, and was not good at getting the cat flap to recognise her so we left it permanently unlocked (which defeated the purpose somewhat). However, we worked out that her microchip had migrated a bit down her shoulder so she had a second microchip fitted and it worked till we moved and she completely forgot how to use the cat flap in the week we were without one
