Why does the cat keep peeing on clothing

We recently got a rescue cat about 4 months ago and she is doing brilliantly apart from she keeps weeing on towels and clothes we leave on the floor to be washed
Just caught her doing it right in front of me on a towel next to the bed and told her off but worried she has a uti or something making her do this. She is booked into the vets already so going to ask about it then but is there anything we can do in the meantime for her besides throwing clothes/towels in the hamper instead of on the floor
She is Spayed if that makes any difference

She doesn't actually wee on flooring just any clothes or towels we leave on the floor she seems to have a preference for towels

It could be a medical thing so good idea to check with the vets when you go. My last cat did this when he had cystitis but I think that's more common in boy cats. I think they look for somewhere comfortable to go as it's painful if that makes sense.
It might also just be part of settling in though - does she ever use her tray? Might be worth trying one in a different place or a different cat litter.

One bit of advice our vet gave us was to really try not to show you are cross when they do it as if it's nerves or feeling a bit insecure it will make the problem worse. REALLY hard when you catch them weeing on something I know!

She uses her tray to pee and poo and is really good about it but as soon as she spots a towel or pile of dirty washing on the floor she'll go sit on it and do a sly wee at the same time

People will always tell you it must be a UTI but I find its usually not. When they have a UTI they act desperate and are obviously in pain. Some cats are just too tempted by a pile of clothing or towels (especially used, smelly ones). My cats particular downfall is the bathmat. The only solution I have found is to keep that stuff off the ground. It's annoying but what can you do?

We think she is doing it out of enjoyment and its more of a comforting thing to her because she wees a lot in her tray and doesn't have accidents shes full of beans and not in pain and has an excellent appetite shes so spoiled and loved its not likely she is unhappy and she gets left alone when she wants quiet time etc
Would a feliway help her if it is to do with been unhappy

DP pointed out she sleeps in the laundry basket of clean washing and on furniture etc and has never peed there its just towels on the floor always dirty ones and dirty clothes

Agree, I think it's fun for them so feliaway won't help. A smelly towel scrunched up on the ground is just impossible to resist for a cat. It's like me trying to resist eating a moist delicious chocolate cake sitting in my fridge when I've been on a diet for a week. Can't be done.

Heh heh! She's hinting you need to be tidier and pick your stuff up off the floor. Someone's mother of sons reincarnated probably. Obey her.

As she's a rescue could it be a habit she formed whilst there? Perhaps there were lots of cats and litter trays weren't cleaned immediately after being used and towels were used as bedding. She may have on occasions done the cat scratchy thing with the towel and used that.

I think you are going to have to put dirty laundry in a basket or hang towels up after they have been used.

My cat did when they got old. School blazers were a favourite. We learned not to leave anything on the floor.

It seemed to be just the cat not wanting to go outside in the wet/cold for a wee. Why would you when you can jump off the bed, have a wee, then get back in the bed for more sleeping?

She's an indoor cat with 3 litter trays and she's only 2yrs old so its not an elderly thing
Least we have some motivation to start tidying up after ourselves
