Cat chewing cords

We've had our rescue cat since October, she was a stray when found so not sure of her background. She scratches stuff but we expected that, what we didn't expect was her love of chewing cords. So far she's chewed the wire of a dangly toy, the cord of a set of fairy lights and 2 phone chargers. I've not come across this in a cat before, does anyone have any advice? How she hasn't electrocuted herself I don't know and we're being careful not to leave any cords lying around or unattended.

It must be just her thing. One of mine chews dressing gown belts. I'd be stressed to hell if either of mine chewed wires. They can be such nightmares.

One of mine chews the corners of coffee tables Hmm not sure you can do much to stop them other than a firm and loud "no" to see if they get to know the word

When trying to stop my rescue cat chewing wires I wiped the cables with lemon oil. It put her right off and resulted in some splendid facial expressions, now forever known as 'doing a face'.

Ooh Weezol that might just work!! I'm at my wits end now, 1 iPad charger, 2 phone chargers and 2 sets of Christmas lights have been destroyed by stealth in seconds. Along with the scratching I'm beginning to wonder if we'll ever be able to keep anything nice again. DailyDance she does recognise the word no but she just looks at us whilst doing the thing we don't want her to do!

Sev loves charger, headphone and christmas tree light wires - they are all one size and he hunts for them in bags and boxes and under my pillow.
We are going to try and have the tree indoors again this year and if there is a chance that lemon oil keeps my lights alive - I'll certainly give it a try.

Sev recognizes No but only in connection with not entering the kitchen...

My cat loves to chew through a wire! We've had numerous chargers, TV cables, Virgin cables (not cheap) chewed threw. We even tried to cord wires and the little bugger still managed to chew through them, it's his only downfall so I always forgive him!

Thanks for the tip about lemon oil. My fairy lights lasted an hour before Barry chomped them, and he has been eyeing up my modem leads....
