Rescue cats. So upset

Brought home two lovely rescue cats yesterday. Lady said they'd been treated for flees and worms. Found a couple of black specks yesterday but thought it was dust/dried crumbled up mud Blush but stroked one of them this morning and there was more. Realised it probably wasn't mud as I'd hoovered yesterday. Looked closer. Found lots of black specks. Googled. Nearly cried. It's fleas, although I haven't seen a live one.

I'm so upset. I feel dirty. And itchy. And how could they have been treated if this has happened? The lady said she used Advantage ten days ago, but she couldn't have done, could she?

We covered the sofas in blankets to avoid clawing until a scratch post is delivered. So in addition to the normal washing, we're going to have to do all that and everything else too.

DH is going to call the vet while I'm at work about treating them, as we want to use the strongest stuff but obviously a bit worried about doing that so soon after their so-called last treatment. We've got Indorex from our previous cat, after he went missing for a week we treated the house as a precaution and kept some Indorex as a precaution.

On top of all this, I was finding it hard to accept the cats. I really wanted them, but they're just not the same as my lovely old cats. I'm sure that in time I'll come to love them unconditionally, but at this very moment I feel like talking then and their unwelcome parasites back to the rescue please don't flame me for saying that Sad

I also agree, it just doesn't sound like this is a good match and these poor cats should be in a happy environment where they arn't being prodded at, experiencing stress after having a hard life beforehand

Give them back to the rescue op and don't get a pet again. You clearly can't cope and you're just going to make them and yourself miserable.

Newsflash - fleas no longer carry bubonic plague!!

I think you are over reacting somewhat.

The cats were treated. Have been treated again . You are using indorex. It will be fine. Cats will get fleas but if you keep up with prophylactic treatments they won't be a problem.

When you treat a cat with flea treatment the fleas have to bite the cat to die so sometimes you can see live fleas or flea dust on a cat after they have been treated, the thing is they also have to bite the cat to lay eggs too so they won’t be breeding and creating more fleas. If you’ve seen anything it would have just been the fleas that have just woken and they will be dead now.

Please stop it with your cats, they don’t have fleas stop stressing them out.

How are things now OP?

Dolceandgabbana14 · 25/11/2017 11:26

They're very content and purring loudly! They've each got a favorite place to sit during the day - obviously completely ignoring the lathe cat climbing frame we bought for them - and they both enjoy sitting on mine and DH's laps in the evenings.

The black flea dirt seems to have gone and I haven't seen any more signs. I've treated the living room with Indorex, and hoovered thoroughly. Conservatory is the only other room they've had access to and I'm cleaning that today (it's due a decent clean anyway). Feeling happier now.

Still haven't thought of names for them though!! At the moment they are The Big One and The Other One. Bless them.

How is your Rescue Puss settling, MissLadybird?

Glad to hear they're settling in Smile do you have a pic?

Well I'm still seeing some fleas which is stressing me out. Reluctant to use indorex with small dd in the house but think I may have to. The cat is as happy as Larry though!

Pictures are required OP! Pretty please?

And I used to have a cat called Big when I was small so Grin at interim naming system.
