How long before I take to the vet?

Hi my cat (3) clearly had a fight 3 days ago and his eye is half closed. He also had a small scab on his head. Since the fight he’s been sleeping virtually 24/7 but doesn’t seem in obvious pain when I examine him

He is eating fine although needs tempting. It’s wet food/fish soup so he is getting fluids. He’s going out twice a day presumably to go to the loo but just looks sorry for himself

I suspect he might have an infection although his ears aren’t hot. My question is - how long would you leave it before taking him to the vets?

I'd take him as soon as you can. His behaviour is telling you he's not right. If he's been bitten he'll need an antibiotic shot & probably painkillers too. Poor puss.

I would take him asap. If his eye has been scratched then it could get very nasty if left untreated.

Take him first thing in the morning...Poor chick, hope he's OK..

Oh ok - I have give his eye a wipe with a saline solution but yes maybe he should have antibiotics. I was hoping to avoid it as he had some earlier in the year already for the same thing. I took him in within 24 hours last time though as he wasn’t eating. Poor lad I’ll take him tomorrow

Yes, take him asap. Cats are masters at covering things up!

Oh poor thing I just gave him another eye wipe and there is blood on the cotton pad. Vets tomorrow for sure

Ours had this and antibiotics cleared it but it took two weeks of twice-daily topical medication and then metacam once a day too.

He needs to see a vet ASAP. Luckily ours healed in two weeks, else we’d have been looking at a trip to the eye specialist!

Yikes. Thanks all I will ring at 8 when they open and get the first appointment I can

Let us know how puss gets on. Hope he's OK.

Thank everyone. I took him to the Vets this morning, he had an abscess on his eye. A shot of antibiotics and two types of painkillers. He’s still feeling v sorry for himself but am v glad I got him sorted!
