Pissing again!!!

Rescued our cat 3.5yrs ago, transition was fine except some peeing issues on DS’s bed which we resolved by making her realize she was higher up the food chain than him.

Since then we’ve had the odd moment of her peeing again, when we first left her overnight (now slowly got to the point we can leave her for two with trusted friends popping in to feed and entertain her, any longer we have a cat sitter)

In the last month tho we’ve started to have issues again we put up a spare bed in our sitting room as my parents were staying for a few weeks, she peed on it twice (we were the ones sleeping in it, not my parents) and again when we were away for one night, then this week she randomly peed omit a couple of times, thankfully we had a waterproof cover on it but we have a friend staying next week and I’m worried she’s going to piss everywhere again - not least the fact that this has cost us a fortune already because she only pees on soft furnishing (we’ve had to replace numerous duvets and a sofa)

Don’t have the option to lock her out of the room because it’s all open plan, what the hell can I do?!

The answer in this sort of case normally has something to do with the litter tray.

So what litter tray/s do you currently have and where?

Watching with interest as our cats are banned from upstairs because they invariably pee on the beds! They seem to be happy and contented, free access indoor and out, curl up on the sofa with us most nights, just a real thing about beds (or bean bags!) oh and cardboard boxes when we moved house. We don’t have litter trays as they go outside but we used to have three big trays, cleaned daily.

We have an open litter tray in one of the bathrooms - door is always open, litter is clay and clumps. Used the same tray and litter the whole time we’ve had her (4 years)

One litter tray per cat plus a spare, so for your one cat you need two trays.
Feliway classic plug in in my house the peeing always restarts if I let the Feliway runs out.
Clean up very carefully first blot up wee, then clean with non-ammonia containing compound and finally use anti-odour product.
In your case where there are certain triggers you could use nutracalm or zylkene just before and during likely stress point. In my case the trigger is our current house for some reason he hates it so I feed a food containing L-tryptophan every single day.

That isn't enough trays probably. Are you saying the bathroom door is always open. Even when someone is using it? When your parents were staying did they use that bathroom? I bet they didn't take a shit with the door open.

So bathrooms are never great because sometimes the door is closed. Where is the bathroom located? Is it on the same floor as where she is pissing?

And as Lonecat says stress is often a trigger.

Our cat just won’t use the tray at all after we started letting her out. Until then she used it with no problems (rescue cat, rehomed with her litter tray and we continued to buy the same type of litter) but now if she doesn’t go outside because the weather is bad she will go in the bloody bath. I would love to know how to stop it. We put a second tray in the bathroom but she completely ignored that too.

I’ll try the second tray but the recent peeing has definitely happened when the bathroom door is wide open

Ah, that's that theory gone then. Extra trays are always worth trying though.

My friend has suggested a UTI which would explain why she’s in and out of the House way more than usual - apparently litter trays are uncomfortable to use when they have a urine infection, so I’m going to get her to the vet to see
