My poor cats usually cope pretty well, they usually hide themselves away for a few hours but a few neighbours have been letting some loud bangers off.

Agree! Have signed countless petitions on gov website for this but they always knock it back with some stupid reason.

Tonight won't be the worst for me here, at least it'll stop by 10pm. New Year's Eve is the worst - they start at about 10pm & go on until at least 2am . I live in the bottom of a valley with houses both sides, so the bangs echo up & down.

Agree. Every year there are incidents of animals and children being seriously hurt due to fireworks. Even when people are being sensible and following instructions they still seem to go wrong sometimes and hurt someone. Then there’s the idiots who think it’s funny to put them in peoples letterbox’s or lob them over garden fences. I just don’t understand why they are freely available.

Definitely agree. Cat is cowering under the bed. Hopefully won't be any poo incidents this year but there have been on previous fireworks nights. He'd be scared of the noise of an organised display nearby too, but at least that would be only one display on one night.

Agree. Cat is more chilled tonight, I think he's just getting used to it He hates being shut indoors - I wouldn't mind if it was just one night, or the nearest weekend to 5th November, but the last week of October and most of November is fair game for the amateur firework experts twats round here.

Agree, the idea of anyone (over the age of 18) being able to buy gunpowder powered incendiary devices, no questions asked, is fucking ridiculous.

I love fireworks, but they seem to go on for days on end with various neighbours setting them off. There was a local display last night, and another local one in the next village tomorrow night, there's just no need for personal use, FFS.

Kind of see it from both sides. Aren't fireworks licensed now?

I agree, and neither cats (one asleep on the sofa and one off out without a care), dogs, (asleep on sofa) or baby (asleep in my bed upstairs), are the slightest bit bothered.

I don't think the general public need to be allowed explosives.

I still have a scar on my eyebrow from having a ‘sparkler’ stuck in my face when I was young. ( 5 or 6 maybe.)

A friend lost one of their dogs who was spooked by some youngsters letting off fireworks nearby when he was walking them.

I agree. We've had an increase in cats hit by cars overnight brought into our practice as well, and while it's not necessarily related I do wonder if spooked cats are more likely to be careless.

My two aren't too bad at all. But I got home from work on Friday, let them out for a quick wee etc, and a neighbours dog was barking incessantly. And it's the 3rd Friday on the trot I've been home after dark and there have been domestic fireworks going on. It's too long - yes it's fun but it's too dangerous and too distressing.

My cats are now going to be kept in for the next two days. It's like there are bombs going off round here, with sirens in the background, it's only ten to six, and this is bloody ridiculous.

One cat is cowering under my bed, another under the kitchen cupboard. I've got Feliway etc. Extra litter tray as it's shitsville here. Poor poster on another thread lost two foals due in the early spring.

Just watching on the news - a fireworks party going wrong, paramedics, burn injuries, screaming ... It's just madness.

Actually at the newsagents earlier the woman was saying she had 3 young cats from CPL and she'd utterly ban fireworks if she could. They're going off here like clockwork at the moment

I'd ban them for personal use too. They should be available for licensed displays only. They are far too dangerous in the wrong hands and terrifying for some people and animals.

My cat has never seemed too bothered, but one of my dogs is. My labrador. He will try to burrow through the walls and floor if he hears them, and will not go outside to toilet until after he is confident they have stopped. It is a sort of sad blessing that he is quite old now and his hearing isn't what it once was. He just doesn't seem to hear them anything like as much, so suffers much less than when he was younger.

My poor boy is huddled in a miserable, furry balls under the sofa. Oddly, he wasn't phased by trick or treaters, but fireworks have totally spooked him.
