Cat using lawn as toilet

Can anyone give me any suggestions for my cat.
When I first got her as a kitten she was litter trained and happily used the litter box indoors.
After I'd had her 6 weeks i started letting her go outside and since then she will not use a litter tray at all, preferring to shit on the lawn.
It's getting really annoying because I now have to check the grass every single time the kids want to play outside.

If I stay outside while she is out there she doesn't do it, so she much know?? She will wait until I need to go in and then do it.

It's driving me mad!!!

You could try making a very attractive (from a cat toilet point of view) patch of soil in your garden which she will likely use rather than the lawn. So you need to dig a square of earth about 2ft square - make sure the soil is soft and plant and grass free, and she will love it. That way you can keep it contained in a relatively unobtrusive place.

Is the grass a bit long? Ours only does it when the lawn needs mowing.

Making a poo area is a good idea! Can't believe I didn't think of it. D'oh

Length of grass doesn't seem to bother her, she'll go on anything.
