Letting a kitten out for the first time?

How do you do it, and how do you get them back?

My 5 month old kitten has escaped out of the front door. She has been allowed out in the secure/enclosed back garden before, but we've kept her in recently after she was spayed so she was desperate to get out and darted out the front door.

I can't see her anywhere now and not sure how I will get her back in Shock. When they start going out is it OK just to let them roam?

Do you have treats you can rattle or a food dish? I have dreamies in a plastic tub and they sometimes come back for that (other times they ignore it!).

My gran always said put Jam on their feet so they can find their way back. No idea if it works though!

They don't need jam or butter or any other crap on their feet. Has she never been out the front before? She might make her way to the back where she knows where she is

Try to lure her back in with treats. Our kitten did that a few times but luckily didn't go very far. We're on a busy road so we don't let her out in the front just the back.

When opening the front door be careful. Try to open it slowly and grab your kitten before you open it fully.

Good luck I hope you find her!

She probably knows the route, I was surprised ours knew how to get round the back of the house because it was terraced so it was quite far.
