Feeding adult cat & kitten

Hi there

I've recently adopted a youngish Mum cat with her one surviving kitten, they were found in a garden in July when they thought the kitten was about 3 weeks old, they then spent 4 weeks in rescue where the Mum was spayed before coming to me mid August.

I was told to give Mum adult food and keep the baby on kitten but they don't seem to be able to understand that!! I've tried feeding baby separately in the kitchen but she won't eat as she just howls to come out.

My concern is Mum has put on about a kilo in weight since I've had her.
I feed them half a pouch each in the morning and the rest at 6pm, plus about 150 gr of Purina One per 24 hours, baby seems healthy enough but I know Mum is eating most of it.

I guess her hormones are all over the place just now so hoping things may settle down in time, plus she's not going out yet so pretty sedentary.

I'm concerned about the weight gain but also anxious baby doesn't end up undernourished.

Sorry for the long post - but please has anyone got any advice
