My cat just got run over

Feel so awful my beautiful cat was found dead on Sunday morning (lady took him to a vet) got the call yesterday from his microchip company & then went to see him. He had been hit by a car (this us the second cat I’ve owned that this has happened to) feel so guilty as moved house 6 months ago - feel I let him down I should have kept him in at night. Also my other cat has been missing for over 3 weeks (but he does wander off from time to time last time he returned after 2 weeks & then after 11 days he came back again) I just cannot stop crying thinking of my poor Alfie cat laying in the road alone & I have put posters up for my other lost cat (joey) & rang his microchip company also contacted council but no sign of him- I can only think the worst after my poor Alfie cat was killed on Sunday 😭 does anybody have any cats that go off for long periods of time but return home?

I'm sorry for your loss.

As this is your second loss to being run over I can only suggest you either have a housecat or another pet.

bottlesandcans · 03/10/2017 11:32

Your other wandering cat will probably be just fine! Lapping up cat milk and attention and will come home to you soon.

I had a cat that came back after 8 months, so all is not lost. I'm so sorry for your loss though Flowers

Thanks for your message - my first loss was in a totally different part of London over 7 years ago I now live in the country & thought it would be quieter here but only 6 months & my poor Alfie is gone feel like the crappiest cat owner ever

This is a hopeful experience- can I ask did you keep your cat in at night after this or do anything different to help keep him around?

How awful for you. So sorry for your huge loss. It is such a difficult time when they go on the missing list. I hope your little cat comes home soon.Flowers

Thank you want2beme it’s such a horrible thing - I appreciate your message- only consolation is vet said because of his injuries it would have been quick 😥 just praying joey comes home now need to rethink about controlling his ventures out now 😩 xx

It helps a little when you know they didn't suffer at the end. I think most of us cat slaves have suffered a loss in this way and it's so hard to cope with, so, knowing it was, at least, quick is something to hold on to. Let us know when Joey returns and give him a big cuddle from all of us "cat fiends".

dementedpixie · 03/10/2017 15:38

I keep my cats in overnight. Cats are crepuscular rather than nocturnal so are active at dawn and dusk. Mine do sleep for a good chunk of the night so I don't like the thought of then trying to find a safe place to sleep if they were outside. They get to go out during the day

Busybee85 · 03/10/2017 20:08

Thanks guys I think I will have to try my best to get joey into a routine of staying in - everything crossed he comes home will update you soon hopefully 🙏🏽🙏🏽

I'm so sorry, about your cat, my cat was run over on a Sunday afternoon I had to get him pts, I really wanted to lock up my other cat, but she loves being out I keep her in at night, my mother has a male cat who goes off at least 2 nights in a row a week but he does go away for weeks on end about 5 weeks was the longest he comes home starving she has no idea where he goes, so there hope for your cat coming back

MsMims · 03/10/2017 22:21

Any news busy ?

If he's not home yet it would be well worth going out looking for him and knocking on some doors.

Can highly recommend cat proofing for keeping him safe in the future (protect a pet is an alternative).

Bobdylannumber1 I’m so sorry about your loss 😥 it’s a horrible thing to have to go through our poor fallen baby cats 🙏🏽 5 weeks wow that is a long time giving me hope joey will return ?msmims no sign of joey yet I posted flyers and posters last time he went off I still have copies so it may be I need to do this again - I have joined a local cat Facebook group (lady who found my darling alfie posted on there about him) & am checking that regular- his microchip company & my local council have all been informed also. I have 2 children under 2 at home but the house just feels so empty to me without my 2 other babies - hate going into my bedroom as Alfie was almost always there napping on my bed - miss him so much- I appreciate all your kind messages it’s making me feel not so alone bless you all 😘😘
