My 2 little fur babies are going into the vet tomorrow for spaying and neutering (I think that's the correct terms) I've only ever had boy cats and I'm worried about the girl as she seems so small. The vet has advised i have them 'sorted' at 5 months being brother and sister together. I'm guessing she is going to take longer to recover - will I need to keep them separate when I bring them home? Will he want to lick her wound? And does that mean she will need a cone of shame? Attached a photo because everybody loves a kitten pic don't they?

Can be done from 4 months. My two boys got neutered at just over 4 months. They were fine and just tired afterwards. Didnt bother with the incision at all. Don't know about spaying though or whether a cone is needed

My two are brother and sister, had them done a few weeks ago at 5 months old. They were fine, he was back to normal soon as we got home, she was a bit more sleepy but she was ok. No cone needed, but they said if they were licking their stitches excessively they might need one. She was small too but big enough for the procedure. I was so worried about them but they were absolutely fine!

Thank you Moo for your reassuring message - it's helped :)

They get over it so quickly, it's not the equivalent of a human hysterectomy at all. You'll be amazed at how she bounces back!

I got three 8 week old girls done yesterday. They are absolutely fine and as lively as ever (and still looking for homes unfortunately - we can't even find homes for cute kittens let alone less cute adults - but I digress).

Your two will hardly know anything has happened OP.
