We already have 2 cats...should we have a 3rd?

We have 7 year old brother and sister, friend of a friend has an unexpected litter and we’ve been asked if we’d like one. YES! But given we already have 2 should we even consider a 3rd?

I have done this twice because no matter how logical I am, I always fall for some waif and then suddenly I've got 3. I could give you every reason in the world not to, but once the idea insinuates itself... Grin

Good luck!

Getting a third is completely daft. Hmm

You really need to take on two kittens from the litter so they have each other to play with in case integrating with the older cats is tricky. The dynamics will work much better with two. (Been there before).

I believe the correct ratio is one per windowsill.

Santawontbelong · 28/09/2017 18:35

I would also vote for 2 more. . .

Demonstrating the advantage of four cats. (Taken some years ago - alas we are down to two now Sad)

We have 10 so I think you can guess my answer, but also another vote for taking on 2, would make it a lot easier and a bit more balanced.

IrritatedUser1960 · 30/09/2017 21:05

Sometimes it works and sometimes not. Just have a plan B in case it doesn't.
I've had 4 that all lived happily ever after and 3 with open warfare, I had to rehome one with a friend, she is as happy as larry with him on her own (and I can see her whenever I want) but with the other 2 the ongoing hostilities and pissing around the house were unbearable.

Didiplanthis · 30/09/2017 21:09

Agree with getting 2. Currently losing the plot as baby cat constantly wants to play with me or big cat. I am more tolerant than big cat who is really not impressed. I wish I had got 2 to play together.

Vinorosso74 · 30/09/2017 21:41

Grumpy I love that photo! The poor black cat looks a bit precariously balanced and the ginger one has got prime lap position.

QueenJane · 30/09/2017 21:43

Yes, six is absolutely fine OP.

Thanks all, we’ve decided to stick with just our 2. I agree 2 kittens would be better than 1 and I’m not sure I want 4 cats!
