My poor 10 year old(at least) rescue kitty came home today with what my DH described as a scratch .... it's more like his fur has been completely removed from the bottom side of his ear nearest his cheek - goodness knows what did that / the immac monster ?!
I'm a nurse maid tonight - poor little man

Oh he's a long hair by the way so whatever got him had hair to grab .... I guess it could be a lot worse

He's not off his food so I'm assuming he's not toooooo bad Hmm

Are you saltwater bathing? I do saltwater paw baths for mine.

I'm not saying it's popular.

RubbishMantra · 20/09/2017 21:03

It sounds like possibly a burn off an exhaust pipe or similar. Do get him checked out at the vets because the visible damage can be misleading - the burn (if it is that) can damage deeper tissue.

flumpybear · 20/09/2017 22:42

It's a bit swollen, yes doing salt water bathing - it doesn't seem to be bothering him tooooo much - his other ear has scratches too 😞 poor little man. Gonna see it it's getting better tomorrow otherwise it's the vet for him - he won't be impressed!!

I'd vet him tomorrow. That 'little bit swollen' is a tad worrying. (Cats will 'put up with 'bad feeling' for an inordinate length of time. They're masters of disguise in that regard.)

100% vet! Poor sunny :-(

cozietoesie · 21/09/2017 21:46

How is he doing? Smile

flumpybear · 22/09/2017 17:55

He's booked in the vets tomorrow morning - I am thinking it's mites actually - he's in for an MOT and service HmmWink
He's fine in himself though, eating and enjoying cuddles doesnt worry about his ears being touched but better to get it sorted
Thanks for all your advice

He also has a bad tooth which is ok doe now but he's booked in for dental work in two weeks time bless him. He's home now with ear drops
And been deflead too - in fact all our pets got the flea treatment today lol

At 10, I'd be (pleasantly) surprised if he had no dental issues. I'm glad you had him seen though. Smile

flumpybear · 23/09/2017 19:17

Yes, absolutely always do what's best for our little Bear - he hates the vet and hates being taken away from home but it is good he's being sorted out - he nearly went crazy on me earlier when I tried giving him round 2 of ear drops - it's gonna be a long week lol 😂 - I'm actually a bit scared - even the vet said 'wow what a big boy we have here .... massive lion type paws ... and claws'!

OP posts:
cozietoesie · 23/09/2017 21:30

Have them clip his claws properly when he's out for the count. Remember to mention it on the day of the op - they sometimes forget. Smile

cozietoesie · 23/09/2017 21:34

My advice on the actual procedure would be to tell the vet to be ruthless. Vets like to 'save' teeth if they can and sometimes take pride in that fact - sending you away with a still-suspect (but clean) mouth and instructions on brushing. (He doesn't sound like a cat who'd take well to a cat toothbrush every day.)

flumpybear · 23/09/2017 22:07

He's my Jamaican cat - Malibu through and through, so laid back ..... til you do sons thing he's not keen on .... then he's a tiger 🐯 lol
