Still Upset

So last night I was driving my friend back home when we spotted a cat lying in the middle of the road. I jumped out, wrapped the poor thing in my hoodie and rushed it to the emergency vet, but it was dead on arrival. We weren't sure when I picked him up if he was dead or not because his leg was twitching, and I thought I felt a feint heartbeat... My friend held and comforted him while I rushed us to the vet, so if he was alive he died surrounded by love.

He suffered a head trauma, and it's likely he was killed instantly or died very quickly afterwards. Thankfully he was microchipped and the owner collected the body today. She said he was her Prince and told him he couldn't stop her cuddling him now, cause he only used to be cuddled on his terms. She thanked me for getting him and looking after him.

I'm so upset. He wasn't my cat but I love cats so much and I can't bare to see them hurt :( I'm glad that I could help but I'm just so upset about it and for his owner. I was told by a passerby that a police car hit it while on a blue light, so I get they couldn't stop, and we got there pretty quickly afterwards (saw the police car pass us) but if we hadn't would anyone have moved him? Or would he end up worse?

I held my cat extra tight last night (she hated it).

I'm not really expecting any responses, just thought writing it would help.

You did a good thing. Thank you very much.
It must be very emotional for you so allow yourself some time.
If it was my cat, I would be so grateful that you had done what you did.

What a lovely, caring person you are. At least the cat wasn't left at the side of the road and, if he was still alive when you found him, had someone to hold him as he went. You are bound to be upset as Shhh says, especially as you are a cat lover.

Am going to give my grumpy cat a cuddle now.

Thekitten · 20/09/2017 16:31

Thank you @shhhfastasleep and @phoebemac for being so kind. I've been holding it together at work but felt quite weepy at times. My manager has been very understanding though.

I'll make sure to try and relax and do nice happy things tonight, and hold my girl, if she lets me I mean.

I still feel really sad for a cat I found dead when I was walking home from work. I feel really bad that I just couldn't bear to pick him up. I phoned the council but someone else had already moved him.

I think you did a really kind thing and I'm sure the owner was very grateful that you were able to pick him up and take him somewhere safe.

Thekitten · 21/09/2017 09:26

Thank you @timtam23, the owner stopped by last night to say thank you, she was so pleased that someone was there to get him out the road and comfort him before he went. She held it together but I could tell she was really upset :(
Oh @toddlerteaplease I'm sorry :( it's so horrible to see, poor kitty. I'm glad someone moved him though and you did what you could deal with. I hope they found the owner.

Oh OP that's making me tear up Sad I worry about our boys all the time and our road isn't even that busy.

It's horrible but you did such a wonderful thing. No wonder you're upset. Go gentle on yourself today Flowers
