Who has experience with lovely anal glands?

My cat has a blocked gland. It's funky and gunky.
What does the vet do when presented with such delights?
Appointment is (hopefully) tomorrow.

If it just needs emptying the vet will squeeze it, if you are in the room do not inhale the smell.

If it is swollen it might be infected and need surgery and you will end up with a cat with a shaven bum. It will look cute and cat will look at it quizzically and wonder what happened.

Keep an eye on the back end for a while and maybe consider adding something firm to the diet so that it doesn't become a regular thing as the anal sacs empty out when poo is passed and if it is soft there is not enough pressure to aid the emptying.
