New kitten and THE POO

It's been a long time since I've been in the care of a kitten and I think we're doing reasonably well.
However, there's a few things that I'm finding quite difficult and I can't remember if it was something that I had with my last cat, so don't know if its normal.

This is a bit gross, so fair warning!

She's a short haired moggie, so we don't have a problem with a furry bum, however she still manages to get poo all over the place. Theres been several occasions when I've caught her after she's come out of the litter tray and needed to wipe her bum and I regularly find splatters and poo prints in the area around the tray Envy
I have to be careful when I pick her up in case she has a dirty bum and paws.

Is this something she'll grow out of? I can't remember ever having this problem with the last one.

Is the poo firm or quite soft? What food are they eating (if its soft)?

One of mine was terrible and used to stand in his poo when trying to cover it up. I used to supervise and chase him round the kitchen to clean him. Had to put paws under the tap on occasion! He did grow out of it as he got better at avoiding it when trying to covet his poo up. His brother never had the same issue but his legs were longer and he was more efficient at covering up

Mostly hard but the occasional soft one. She farts like an old man, it can honestly clear a room, so I'm working on finding her a pet food that hopefully reduces this.

She is very tiny, her mum was very small too, so perhaps that is a factor!

I got ours at 8 weeks and the messy one had much shorter legs and longer fur so was always a bit crap at using the litter tray properly. He improved as he got bigger

Ah yes, we had this with our little one. We got her at 8 weeks and she "went" probably about 5 times a day for weeks and would get poo on everything (especially the cream linen sofa, sigh)! If I was around, I would intercept her on exit from her litter tray with a tissue to give her a wipe! The other issue was the smell - worse than any nappy I've ever encountered! This got better when we switched her from Felix to Nature's Menu kitten food.

She's 5 months now and goes once or sometimes twice a day, and it must be a lot more "solid" because we don't have any of those problems any more, so there's hope for you. I did so much reading before getting a kitten cause I'd never had one before, only older rescues, and nothing ever mentioned how much time would be spent dealing with poo!

dementedpixie so gorgeous!

Nicolacc82 So much poo, right?! I swear the amount I collect each day is actually bigger than her.
