Heat pad for cats

As poor Vinocat is getting on a bit and quite skinny am thinking she's going to feel the cold once winter arrives. Been lo9king at heatpads for her, quite like the look of this:

Do any of you have one or any other recommendations? I would prefer to avoid an electric blanket (a great aunt had one go up in flames so bit wary of them!). Ta.

I use electric ones myself and they're great. I haven't heard of problems with them. As long as you don't get them direct from China they're probably fine.

I also had underfloor heating put in my kitchen especially for the cats :)

I have used that type though and they're not bad.

Thank you. Not sure the budget can stretch to underfloor heating but I'd love that! The fear of electric blankets is from years back but I still remember the smell....

I'd like a battery/solar one as our DCats live outside and shun the lovely kennel I bought them but could still do with a bit of warmth

Wolfiefan · 11/09/2017 21:27

We used an electric whelping pad. We only left it on for a short time whilst we were about. It did seem to help. I didn't want a microwave one. I wanted one I could put in her favourite spot and heat up once she was settled. She wouldn't have liked us to disturb her to put the heat pad under her.

I've just ordered a nice big fluffy heated throw from Amazon, off the advice on another thread. Got to keep the furries warm!

I had to replace ours last year after using Petsafe which are no longer available. I will need to check which one we have now.

I also used to use Snugglesafe microwave ones which are good if you don't want the worry of a cable.

If you have a cat that likes a bed and will use it, I would suggest a self heating bed, I bought one last year from Homesense, it is a small dog bed and my little old girl loves it. She also has a chair with 2 electric pads, one on the seat and one on the back, you need to get ones that are activated by weight. Do not buy the rectangular ones with the red covers, they are not great.

OK, have had a look, the heated (electric) pad is Pet Remedy which is a good make (it is blue). On top I have a fleece throw and a fluffy bed and it is still warm.

The thermal bed is Scruffs, it has that foil stuff inside that the sports blankets are made of and is washable. I have a little blanket tucked in to reduce the washing.

Snugglesafe pads last overnight but need some bedding on top as they are hard. In addition to this I had a small space type heater or an oil filled one for when the central heating was off.

Each cat had different needs, so one was happy with the Snugglesafe and would lean his front on it and face the heater, would never use a bed. The other would hug anything warm but refused to use the Snugglesafe so has the electric pads, the thermal bed and a heater.

I need to stop looking at self heating stuff. The cat has
His own room with a folded feather duvet, blanket, and pillow
His own chair Hmm with a cat bed, personalised blanket and under blanket
My bed which is a memory foam mattress with pillows, duvet and throw

I'm pretty sure he doesn't need a self heating pad too BlushBlushBlush

No, he doesn't need a self heating blanket, they make a crinkly noise. He does need a thermal bed and a little set of steps so he can get on to the pedestal you place it on (like mine has but it is a table rather than a pedestal).

Mine has her own room, her own heater, chair, bed, table, steps, toilet, drinking fountain and a selection of bowls with various foods in them. On my bed she has her own throw and next to it a little electric fire and a bowl of treats. In the living room she has a bed in front of the radiator, and a cave in the corner and in the spare room she has 2 of those 2 tier baskets, one on top of the other and a little stool to help her up to the top one.

I don't agree with spoiling them - not a bit.

Vinorosso74 · 14/09/2017 13:38

So far I have ordered the pad, of Vinocat isn't keen I will use it for period pain! A self heating blanket arrived today and is currently being tried out, there has been purring and slow blinks so I am taking that as approval.
I have been looking at some of the other electric blankets and got a bit carried away but I haven't order any just yet......

I'm pretty sure he doesn't need a self heating pad too

Do post a review when it arrives as well as a picture of him sitting on it :)

Ollivander84 · 14/09/2017 16:18

Yet - he is NOT having one

What colour are you going for?

Ollivander84 · 14/09/2017 17:06

He has a self heating pad, it's called his hooman 😂😂

GingerKitCat · 14/09/2017 18:47

Loving all these pampered felines!

RubbishMantra · 15/09/2017 22:05

Enjoying their new heated throw...

Vinorosso74 · 15/09/2017 22:26

The heatpads arrived today so Vinocat slept on the self heating blanket, paws and head on the heated pad with the sun shining on the chair. Very toasty.
Disclaimer, she has no body fat to keep herself warm.

This would make a perfect Xmas gift for Dr Mewler. Keep the recommendations coming
