Bald tip of tail

As the title says really- I noticed this morning that the very tip of my cats tail is going bald. It's not enough to see from the side, only if you see it end on if you see what I mean? As far as I know he's not had any injury to it, it's still moving normally and doesn't seem to be bothering him- I can hold it enough to have a quick look ( but not long enough to take a photo unfortunately!) and it isn't red or inflamed. He is eating/ drinking fine and being his normal energetic self- he caught his third ever mouse this morning 😬! Due to work I can't take him to the vet until the beginning of next week unless I go to an emergency one- and given how much he hates going in the cat carrier and how well he is I am reluctant to do this. He is a 20 month old black neutered tom and has always had small bald patches around his nipples but the tail thing is definitely new. Has anyone experienced this and is it something I can just keep an eye in for a while (unless it starts to bother him obviously)? Any advice for a probably over anxious first time owner very much appreciated.

Does he nurse on his tail? I have one who uses his tail as a dummy.

He doesn't seem to nurse on it, not when I'm around anyway. I wonder if he over grooms ( but then again I don't really know what is normal for a cat). He will often be in the middle of playing/ stalking a toy then suddenly sit down and start grooming himself, he doesn't seem to pay particular attention to his tail though. He's brought up one massive fur ball in 5 months I've had him. His tail isn't getting any worse so I'll take him for a check up next week.
