Which cat toys have you found your cats like the best? I have a 7 month old kitten. She loves chasing the red dot but has become bored of most of the usual things e.g. Balls, fishing rod type toys. We need a bit of variety. Thanks in advance.

We don't have a cat anymore, we used to, but I found that I could spend hundreds of pounds on toys and he wouldn't play with any of it.
Screwed up piece of paper thrown about, anything that dangles within reach for him to bat at, a fly or moth - would love. Nothing I ever spent money on was played with!
Same goes for beds.. He'd sleep on paper, in a cardboard box, on top of the wardrobe etc but nothing I bought that was called a cat bed.
They're such buggers.

I make triangles out of crisp packets and one of mine likes them. A cat tunnel? Recently got a kong soft toy thing and one of them likes it too (the same one that likes crisp packets!)

My cats would like to recommend Zebedee mice (they break really easily, but my goodness they're popular when they come home!) and the Yeowww banana, which doubles up as a cat-sized snuggle pillow when it's not being thrown around a room and used as a wrestling buddy.

Cardboard boxes and other litter is also a hit. As is climbing into bins, but they aren't supposed to do that...

This has been a hit with all of our fosters:

Also, the long fishing rod with only feathers so it whooshes as it whips through the air is miles better than the short ones with bells and mice on in my experience.

Leroy's favourites are "Mousie", a catnip filled furry mouse from P@H (comes in a pack of 2 but he's not interested in the leather one) and "Furball", again from P@H and is a big fluffy ball with silvervine.

He still loves a good old fashioned scrunched up bit of tin foil too though.

If you're willing to play along then I'd recommend ping pong balls. We have a big tom cat and although he doesn't play all the time furry kickers are good for the occasional realises of fury Grin

If she's not too strong then you can get cheap battery operated rotating butterfly toys on eBay. He enjoyed it, but he's very strong and it lasted about an hour

@dementedpixie your kitten is beautiful. My kitten's mum and brother are similar to yours.

My kitten loves her tunnel. Great fun charging back and forth through it.

Thanks all for the ideas. Im going to get scrunching and also have another look at Pets@home.

Peacock feathers - free from most National Trust or English Heritage sites. Provide huge entertainment value (presumably because they smell of bird).

buckeejit · 07/09/2017 08:04

Da bird da bird! It's awesome-but cheaper versions on eBay. The butterfly looks good but I've spent ages saving butterflies this summer from the grips of our 2 😭

Doobigetta · 07/09/2017 12:05

Mine is about the same age as yours, and currently seems to like boxes more than anything else. A variety of boxes placed on the floor for her to jump in and out of makes her very happy. She also gets REALLY excited by bundles of feathers- to the extent that sessions have to be limited because she goes a bit feral.

Weedsnseeds1 · 07/09/2017 15:30

Mine loves feathers, plastic rings from milk bottle tops and Plague Rats.

reetgood · 07/09/2017 15:38

Ours likes the slinky string type toys. The kong refillable cat nip mice were a good idea and popular... so popular they were pretty much destroyed in a couple of hours.

We got him the kong kicker toy and he kept getting startled when it flipped on to him...sigh. He's not the sharpest.

TroysMammy · 07/09/2017 15:40

Pets at Home batting practice teaser squeaker cat toy and backyard bird. Unfortunately it could give your cat a liking for killing creatures. Troy favoured catching small birds that resembled his bird toy.

TroysMammy · 07/09/2017 15:41

A large Primark paper bag is a good buy at 5p.

Costacoffeeplease · 07/09/2017 16:10

Ours like this kind of thing
