Am I feeding her right?

This is Princess Mog. She had been with us around 10 days now and has settled really well, bless her. I'm feeding her Arden Grange grain free (free feeding) and topping her up with raw chicken about once a day, as was suggested by the breeder, but I just want to check if that's right. The vet said raw was fine as long as it was from a 'reputable source' (Tesco!) but I should make sure she is getting enough calcium. Would this be covered by the dry food?

Also, I've been reading a lot about raw feeding (I've never come across it before) and people keep saying how good it is but not really explaining why! I don't think I want to purely raw feed as I'm useless at remembering to defrost stuff but I want to try to do the best for my fluff bag.

Anyone know much about it?

No idea about raw feeding, sorry! But just had to comment on her amazing eyes! They are stunning!

What a beautiful girl!

I personally wouldn't feed my cat raw chicken, because the risks outweigh the benefits in my opinion. Cats can eat raw chicken because of the acid in their stomachs and the way it breaks food down but my cats are hunters and I do worry about them picking up infections which would make things harder for them.

You should get sufficient calcium from a good, pure dry food with no unnatural colourings etc, so, based on your vet and breeder's advice, I think you're doing fine.

If you choose to take her off raw food, I'd recommend something with a high meat content, like Applaws or something similar.

Thanks everyone for your comments and advice. I'll keep her as she is for a bit and many get some applause to keep on the cupboard.

And because she is an attention seeker... here's another picture! Grin

I would keep any eye on the amount of Arden grange she is eating as the commonest reason I see obesity in cats is free feeding dried food. Weigh out what they recommend for her weight for a day so you have an idea roughly what the correct amount is.
