Introducing kitten to older cat

I have a cat , it's actually my DD's cat but she has moved out and left moggy with me.

The friend she has moved in with has a new kitten. DD and friend have asked me to have the kitten at mine while they are away on holiday , which I'd rather do than schlepping back and forth to their flat 3 or 4 times a day.

How should I go about introducing the older cat to the kitten ? I can keep them apart if they don't get on but it would be nice to let them both have the run of the whole house .

If they do get on DD said she'd take our cat to live with them , it's a ground floor flat with a garden so the cat can go out as she's used to doing at my house .

Cats' Protection said to me:
Scent swap - give them separate spaces and after a few nights, swap the bedding over so they can 'scent' each other. If they seem distressed - give it longer.
Then when they first 'meet' each other try and do it in neutral areas, don't let them come face to face but carry one of them through a shared area, or sit down with one. Keep briefly doing that again for a few days. If that goes badly, back off, it can take weeks. You need to get them attached to you, so they are confident that their world hasn't changed, you still feed and play with and are affectionate with them and whatever is normal for them.
My kitten has been here over 10 weeks and I still can't leave them alone together when I'm out though I do when I'm in so I can referee before there is a proper fight.
Don't know if that helps... others here have taken just a few days.

Ok Thankyou . Kitten is only with me for a few days so maybe I'll have to keep them separate . I'll show kitten to older cat while he's in the cat carrier and see how they react .
