Guilt over cat on the road

Not really sure why I'm posting but need to get this off my chest.
Did the long drive back from visiting my parents today and sadly saw a dead cat on the road (on the hatched area at the end of the slip road and so wouldn't be driven over). It was a dual carriageway and there wasn't anywhere I could have stopped without causing mayhem/accident on the road. However, I feel very guilty as if that was my cat I would want to know what happened. Had it been safe to stop or a quieter road I would have done and used Google maps to find a vet or somewhere which would have a chip scanner. No idea whether the council (County Durham I think) will do anything.

You could report it to the council in case they do pick them up (our's does).

The only way we knew our cat had been run over was someone moved him to the grass verge then someone called the council who collected him, then rung us

I posted about the exact same thing a few weeks ago. I couldn't bare to pick it up and I didn't have my car anyway. I reported it to the council. Got a phone call asking if anyone else had picked him up as the owners had been asking. The owners put a poster up asking where his body was. I replied but I couldn't tell them who's picked him up. It was really sad. I hope that they didn't see him tbh.

I think that's another reason I feel guilty. I was driving so I'm not entirely sure of the exact slip road as it's not a part of the north east I know too well and am not 100% sure on the council. Have just tried navigating the County Durham website which isn't that clear it would appear..... It was 10ish this morning when we passed there so not sure if it will even still be there.

It's horrible. I was so sad for ages. Still am sad when I think of it. I went home and hugged my girls extra tightly.
