Cat flaps that recognise microchips - do they work?

Grateful for any experiences (from humans as well as cats!). The cat flap we had ages ago that was supposed to recognise a magnet on a collar never worked properly and poor cats regularly got bumped noses.

Ours is a Sureflap. Works perfectly.

Yes. Ours is a Sureflap too. Brilliant customer service, they even sent us a brand new reinforced one when our Houdini cats managed to escape when it was locked!

Ok thank you!

we've had one for 5 years works perfectly, 2 cats

Just don't ignore it when the battery warning light comes on as we did one time before going on holiday, as it defaults to open. We did once and we came back and the local cats and foxes had had some kind of orgy in the kitchen.

Another yes for Sureflap, had ours for 4 years and 100% successful.

BewareOfTheToddler · 20/07/2017 23:32

Yes! Ours is also a Sureflap and we also had great customer service from them when the first one started playing up - they diagnosed the problem over the phone and sent a free replacement out the next day. We've been really pleased with it and it's solved the problem of all the local Six Dinner Sids breaking in and eating our cat's food. Grin

We have a pet Porte and it works well for one cat but not the other as her chip has slipped down her body. I've had to sew a chip in her collar.

BikeRunSki · 20/07/2017 23:34

Yes. Sureflap here too.

OhTheRoses · 20/07/2017 23:37

Sureflao here. Perfect. Except fat cat needed one for small dog and posh glass door had to be remade to house flap. Glass involved in all external back doors. I will not say how much this cost. I will say the cat third child is a spoilt bastard. Grin

I'm going to order one off Amazon. Thanks!

Another Sureflap owner here, 2 cats, works a treat Smile

Another Sureflap owner here. We've got the pet door rather than the cat flap as Harry was used to a larger cat flap. We're thinking of upgrading to the one that can be controlled by an app.

empra · 21/07/2017 09:00

Yes, very happy with the Sureflap here too.

occasionallyclueless · 21/07/2017 09:04

We've also had a sureflap for years and it's been brilliant.

We had to contact customer services a couple of times and they were excellent - really quick respond and sent out spare parts for free with very friendly service. It tuned out the issue was the one of the cats' chips was too far back on her neck and when she got another one placed nearer her head it worked perfectly.

CrazyHairSister · 21/07/2017 09:07

Yes had one in the old house, worked perfectly, sadly left it behind as we are in rented housing now.
