Hello all - adopted a lovely cat on Sunday. She has been in her safe room until last night when we opened the door and went straight into our room. DH said he saw her exploring when he got up in night for wee. She is using her litter tray well and is returning to her safe room to eat her meals - then returning under our bed. She is fond of me and dh but quickly runs when she hears our children thunder in (I've only just realised how loud our kids are since having catty)!

1st question - since she's had door open she seems to be spending more time in hiding. Is that normal?

2nd question - how long should I leave it before moving her food and water bowl into their proper place rather than her safe room? Should I wait until she is happy around the home or wouldn't moving it into its place encourage her to come out from under the bed into the rest of the house?

Thank you!

She sounds really sweet. If it were me, I'd leave things the way you have them. She'll venture further when she's feeling more confident. How old is she? Some cats are more confident than others. Just be guided by her. Happy catting.

You could ask your DCs to play gently with her with one of these, so they can all get to know each other.
