Kittens with an older cat?

DCat1 died this week v suddenly. She didn't come home for her dinner and as she loved her dinner, we knew straight away it was bad news. Next day our neighbour found her body so at least we had her, rather than her just be missing. It looks like she just curled up and went to sleep.

DCat2, her sister doesn't seem hugely bothered - we were never convinced DCat2 actually liked her.

We however are bereft and really don't want to be a one cat household. Are we mad to think about kittens?

I'm quite happy with kittens, it's how DCat1 and 2 arrived as littermates. But are we about to make DCat2's life completely miserable Sad

I had two cats, one died and the other, after an inital period of looking for her, didn't much miss her. He enjoyed closer contact with humans once he had no competition. Grin

I, however, over time, developed the kitten urge. And my friend's cat gave birth to my favourite colour of cat, so we adopted him. And his brother, because I also like to have two at a time.

I was a little worried about Dcat1 because as well as being 12, he's a bit disabled as a result of an accident before he came to us.

There was an initial suspicion between the two parties, each hiding under different sofas, with a bit of hissing and growling, but they never came to blows. Last night, less than two weeks after adopting the kittens, all three were curled up asleep on my lap. :)

So, yes, it can work.

Oooh that's positive.

I have had the kitten urge for a long while - DCats are 12/13. DH was never a cat person but clearly they have grown on him as he was really upset over DCat1.

He's always said 2 cats is plenty but I found him yesterday telling the neighbours we would prob get kittens (plural!) without me even asking Smile

Good luck, then. Hope it works as well for you it has for us, so far. :)

When I went to get a rescue kitten and said we had a very old boy they advised we have two kittens as they would play together and leave old boy alone.
They were right but old boy loved the babies sleeping with him and keeping him warm.
