Bugger- a flea

I treat my cat with Advocat flea stuff but I have just seen a flea on my arm ! I'm paranoid about fleas after an infestation in our old house which I eventually got sorted by having the house sprayed.

Please tell me we're not infested again Sad

For every 1 flea you can see there's another 99 in the house. As a vet I always recommend using Bravecto, it's the most effective. I would pick

CremeFresh · 13/07/2017 01:11

Oh god ! Is Bravecto for the cat or house ?

It's for the cat. Does ticks as well and lasts 3 months.

Weedsnseeds1 · 13/07/2017 07:06

Try Indoorex for the house

Fluffycloudland77 · 13/07/2017 08:21

They can still get fleas after being treated but the fleas bite them & die.

Indorex is sold in some human pharmacies, use exactly as directed & put puss outside while you spray so you don't gas them.

I cannot recommend Advantage flea control enough, the only product I have ever found to be effective. You can buy it online to save vet fees and you have to re-treat your pets every few weeks. We stayed in a caravan recently that had a flea problem, and when they jumped on our dog they dropped dead on the floor right away as I had just treated him. It works well on our cats too. The problem is that pets can get cat/ dog fleas, grass fleas and rabbit fleas. You cannot prevent the problem, especially if you live in a rural area. You can protect yourself and your pets by using regular treatment though.

I'm religious in using Advocat so don't know why she's got the buggers, I'll get some spray for the house.

Sometimes the fleas just build up immunity to a product you use regularly and you have to change to another, unfortunately.

weeds how much does your vet charge for bravecto? I'm going to have to switch one or both of mine as the girl really struggles with spot on. Every month it sets her back for days. Think she'd cope better with a 3 month one. Think I would too!

Weedsnseeds1 · 15/07/2017 22:42

living I think it was around £20, but he has the outsized mutant size dose, so a bit cheaper for an average cat. I sent OH to pick up the last lot, so it's been 5 months since I paid for a dose.

Wolfiefan · 15/07/2017 22:44

Lots of scary stories about Bravecto. It's not one I would use. Fleas don't die until they bite so I wouldn't panic about one flea!

CremeFresh · 15/07/2017 22:59

I've just ordered some Bravecto, what's wrong with it ?

OP posts:
Wolfiefan · 15/07/2017 23:00

Not sure how much is hype. Have a Google. Seems to be around dogs and sudden severe reactions.

Weedsnseeds1 · 15/07/2017 23:13

I have been using it for nearly 9 months ( 3 doses) with no issue. I switched from Advocate because of the number of ticks he was picking up, rather than because the Advocate wasn't working for fleas.

LivingInMidnight · 16/07/2017 11:00

Thanks weeds Smile

I've seen the scary stories, they were all about dogs. There's scary stories for all of them though! If she can't cope with monthly spot ons there aren't many (or any!) alternatives.

Plus trouble magnet boy has had ticks.

LivingInMidnight · 17/07/2017 15:52

My vet doesn't sell it Sad. Getting a prescription so I can buy it online. With the prescription charge it's quite expensive so might not be a plan long term.
