Hypoallergenic cat and Russian blues?

I would like to get a pet, and DH is very keen that this should be a cat. Unfortunately I am allergic to most cats. I've been hearing about Russian Blues though and that they are better for people with sensitivity to cats? I get sneezy and itchy eyes near most cats. Has anyone come across these cats and found this to be true?

I am personally much less allergic to longer haired cats. Never met a Russian Blue in person but have never read that they are hypoallergenic before. I have read that as a general rule the lighter the colour of the cat the less allergenic protein it produces. I have a white and dark grey Maine Coon. I don't react to her at all any more and even my BIL who is much more allergic doesn't generally need to take antihistamines here. Siberians have a reputation for being better for people with allergies.
