Feeling guilty and sad.

Found a dead cat lying in the gutter on my way home from work this morning. It had been hit by a car a few hours before I think. I really can't deal with dead things so couldn't bear to pick him up and move him. He had no collar on but feel bad for not taking him to a vet to be scanned. I wasn't near my house so couldn't get any gloves or a blanket. It's a busy road with a lot of foot traffic so hopefully someone will deal with him soon. Feel terrible and very sad for not doing it my self but I just couldn't bear to do it.

Very often councils will pick up dead cats and some scan them. Could you call a vet close to where it was or the local council?

That's a good idea. There is a PDSA hospital not far. Don't know why I didn't think of that.

It's not open yet.

I've reported it to the council.

Please don't feel guilty. It's not an easy thing to do. And especially upsetting for a cat lover too.

It's great when a person can, but the fact that you can't is far from a place of not caring. I'd struggle too tbh.

If it had a collar on I'd have overcome my squeamishness and phoned the owners. I gave my two an extra hug. Driving two cats to a shelter this afternoon so I can concentrate on the ones I can help.
