Blood in urine

Hi All

Last week I had to take SmokingCat to vets as he hadn't urinated in over 24 hours and the day before had 2 accidents on the floor, he was also being quite aggressive. Vets said they thought it was cystitis and gave him a 5 day course of Loxicam, this seemed to perk him up a bit and the accidents stopped. He would only urinate outside though and not in his litter tray but I figured it would take a while for him to get back to normal.

This morning I woke up and found he had again urinated on the floor but as I was cleaning it up I noticed there was quite a large amount of blood in it. I then noticed flecks on blood on the kitchen floor too.

I've rang the vet but they can't see him until half 5 tonight and I'm then meantime I've made the fatal mistake of googling. Dr Google says it could be a blockage which in male cats can be fatal within a few hours if not seen.

I don't know whether to just wait until his appointment as he's absolutely him in himself (eating, running about, playing, etc) or just take him up now and see if they will see him. I admit option 2 seems slightly ludicrous given he is currently chasing a fly around the house....

Did they ask you the problem?

SmokingGun · 29/06/2017 15:39

Yes, but receptionist just said she would put it down as a repeat visit from last week Confused

How is he?

Blood in urine is a really bad sign and he should have been seen as an emergency. Blockages in male cats can be fatal of not treated.

Happend to one of my boys, was a major worry. Turns out he has bladder problems when he gets stressedHmm not as stressed as me Smile

Vet thinks cystitis hadn't cleared so he's back on Loxicam for another week and some other tablets that are supposed to strengthen the bladder lining. They are going to see him again in 10 days and if no change they will look to do a scan of the bladder.

They do want a urine sample but god knows how I'm going to get that, they've said that if I can't then they could keep him in at the vets until they get one but if really like to avoid that if I can!
