New cat or kitten or two??! Help

Our lovely troublesome cat died last year and we have been considering getting another as we all miss him.

We have a 3 year old son and a baby on the way. Are we being crazy thinking of getting a new cat?

If not should we go for a kitten- or two? I work 3 days a week but my maternity year will start soon. Would two be better for company?

We have the room and all the set up ready. I would like a rescue but am unsure with the children?

Can anyone offer any advice please?

I would go for an adult rescue, it's not unknown for young kids to accidentally kill kittens.

Plus kittens are hard work.

Don't have a kitten or two and a baby. Seriously. Don't! They scratch and have to be kept until neutered and race round the house waking everyone up. Kittens are hard work.
We had a mum and son. She was two and he was only 18 months. Old enough to be a bit calmer and never scratch or bite but young enough to play.
Not sure about taking on a new pet whilst dealing with a toddler and a new baby though. Noise and disruption for she animal. More work for you and you can't leave very young children unsupervised round pets.

I thought I might be getting carried away! Thanks for your responses we will wait- we just miss our old puss!

Sad In a couple of years you would have a toddler and a school age child. Very different. You may find a rescue that's come from a family and is happy around kids. When we got our rescues we didn't have kids. They would sit at the window when they heard children playing and try and watch them. Sad
