One or two kittens?

Isthisreal3 · 05/06/2017 22:30

Just looking for some advice please.... I am about to embark on the journey of kittenhood, I was sure I only wanted one but then there were only 2 kittens in the litter and now I'm considering them both (Boy & girl)
I had 2 boy puppies from the same litter a while back and it was a disaster, and after much soul searching & on advice of my vet I had to rehome one due to aggression (towards other pup & then humans).
I've searched the Internet and it seems that cats are a different kettle of fish and actually like to be homed with a sibling. I'm very tempted but before I make a terrible mistake and have to rehome a pet again please let me know your thoughts....

I have two sisters. It was the best thing, I am so glad i got two. Watching them together is lovely. If you can, I would say definity get them both.Smile

I have always had kittens in pairs. I think it's much easier as they amuse each other. They may grow apart as they get older but my current two will still sleep together on occasions and I often see one cat looking for the other cat when they first come indoors even if they then go their separate ways.

I took one from a litter and she was very fearful and heavily relied on us.I agreed with DC she got on OK we would get her sister.they are adorable playing together and both are confident and playful
Plus saves your hands be scratch to bits by kitten playing!! They love coming up for lap cuddles after the DC had toys out playing with them.get two!!

We have had 2 brothers from 6 weeks old. Now 5 and still close. Never happier than playing together or shredding a box!!
1 is asking for no curtains /carpet /sofa /arms /legs!!

Isthisreal3 · 06/06/2017 06:47

Ok so it's looking like the 2! 2:1 vs the dog might be better too!

We chose two, a boy and a girl. They were very close as kittens but grue apart as they got older. Two completely different personalities, Toby was the confident one when we chose him, a complete character and loved the outdoors, Lottie was the more nervy one but very much the home loving lap cat. At Toby got older he became a lap cat as well. Occasionally they would hiss, stop eachother coming through the cat flap (cat language is different to ours), but we lost Toby recently and Lottie looked for him for a couple of weeks.

I'd go for two every time if I could, but you do have to think about the cost of feeding, vets bills.

I have two sisters. I love having two. Except at 3am this morning when they were both bouncing on and off the bed. When one was critically ill the other was such a huge comfort, I don't know what I'd have done with out her.

Bamaluz · 06/06/2017 16:29

Having two kittens is vastly different to having two puppies, it's to be encouraged rather than discouraged.

Isthisreal3 · 06/06/2017 17:42

I'm convinced!! I made a mistake with the 2 puppies and thought would be ok but I should have heeded the warnings... seems like kittens are different, I can't find a negative word about 2 kittens. Very excited now, I've seen them twice, first time the girl was quite shy but the boy mischievous... next day both were little monkeys!! Fingers crossed can get them after their 2nd vaccines on Sat.

Squee!! I have 2 brothers. 2nd time in my life I've had 2 litter mates. Best ever.

RhythmAndStealth · 08/06/2017 00:32

Two. Definitely two if you can't take the whole litter, all of them

HirplesWithHaggis · 08/06/2017 00:38

Another one supporting the two kittens thing. My new pair (brothers) will come home in four and a half weeks. Not that I'm counting, or anything.

My very first kitten was a solo, he was absolutely fabulous but my hands/wrists/arms were shredded playing with him. I remember my sister was getting married and I was being measured for a bridesmaid dress, and the dressmaker remarked (upon noticing the scabs - not scars, please note!) that I was either a seamstress like her (obv not) or I had a kitten... Grin

I fitness two brothers and they grew up to hate each other. Was very stressful for them. It does look like this is not the norm tho so we might have been unlucky.

I got one kitten who is anot 7 months old now. I think it would have been nice for him to have had some company to cuddle up to and play with, but he is quite bonded to me which is nice seeing as I wanted a pet.

If you can be home a fair bit during the kitten stage and play with them a LOT I think 1 is totally fine and could be preferable as hey get older.

Also depends on size of family and house/garden.

Never ever ever play with hands. Only play with toys.

I've been scratched three times in total - all three when I was absentmindly playing with a toy in my hand to throw and wasn't quick enough rather than a wand toy.

Isthisreal3 · 08/06/2017 21:14

Fingers crossed these little beauties will be coming home with us at the weekend. My children have named the little girl 'Treasure' and boy 'Magnus' .... can't wait !!

HirplesWithHaggis · 12/06/2017 00:59

They are indeed gorgeous, are they now yours? Grin

Icequeen01 · 12/06/2017 07:51

They are adorable! Congratulations Op and definitely the right choice to get two!

Broken11Girl · 12/06/2017 08:06

Awwwww squeeee!
Definitely best to get 2. Never let them scratch or bite people, get toys.
They're gorgeous. They do look 'posh', are they part Bengal?

Isthisreal3 · 13/06/2017 16:21

Yes all mine now... 😍. British shorthairs, settling in ok and getting more mischievous. They were waiting at the window for me to get home earlier.

I also got 2 boy littermates at 8 weeks old and they are now 7 months old. They still seem to like each other although their play fights can look brutal. First picture is recent and the other is from when we first got them

Oh gorgeous! They have the same markings as mine but long hair?? I was worried about them fighting when older but fingers crossed all will be harmonious!!

One is short haired and the other is semi long haired (fluffy!).
