What can I do for a potential stray in pain?

Cat has turned up at my doorstep, crying with pain. I've had a few glasses of wine and DP can't drive. I've left a message with the local cats protection but is there anything else we can do? He doesn't want to let her in in case she has fleas! She's crying and limping and my heart is breaking for her

I would say sod the fleas and let her in.

Give her some water to drink and a box with an old towel in it to sit in. If she will let you, check her over - she could have something caught in her paw.

Oh crikey. CP probably won't pick up message until the morning. Have you searched for any other local animal charities nearby who could help? You could search on catchat. Maybe try calling emergency vet for advice, they usually have veterinary nurses manning the phones.
Are you happy to say roughly where you are in case anyone knows anywhere which could help.
Do you have a shed/garage/porch to let the cat into at least? Put an old towel down for her.

Have you a friend locally who could help. This animal sounds like it needs medical care and is asking for help.

Toddlerteaplease · 29/05/2017 22:51

Please let her in and see if it is something obvious and minor that you could fix. Cats rarely show that they are in pain. So she must be very distressed if she's crying. She may belong to someone local. Could you enquire with the neighbours first thing in the morning?

DanceTheBlues · 29/05/2017 22:53

Panic over for now. She's shut in the kitchen with food, water and a basket with a blanket. The only emergency vet around would need me to bring her in which I can't do right now - I will be taking her straight to my vets first thing in the morning. It's just her paw that's injured, it's bloody but doesn't look like there's a deep wound. I'll be sleeping in the living room to make sure everything's ok overnight!

There's loads of cats that wander round my street and I've never seen her before; if she doesn't have a chip I'll be straight onto the local cats charities.

BewareOfDragons · 29/05/2017 22:58

I'm glad you've taken her in. I hope she's ok.

GreenPolishToGo · 29/05/2017 22:59

I'm so glad you're looking after her. Hope the trip to the vet goes well.

DanceTheBlues · 29/05/2017 23:40

Here she is watching tv with me and sleeping on my arm. If she's not got a home I'm screwed aren't I? My Oliver cat keeps kissing her Blush

And yes, if she hasn't got a home you've got another cat.

Toddlerteaplease · 30/05/2017 06:34

Isn't she lovely. Hope you got some sleep and she'll be ok.

Rednailsandnaeknickers · 30/05/2017 09:51

Hope cat is ok this morning.

DanceTheBlues · 30/05/2017 10:26

It's a he, and he's chipped! Unfortunately the chip is still registered to the person/shelter that did the chipping, but the vets are confident they'll be able to get hold of the owner. The vet gave him pain relief and he stopped crying almost immediately - he's ripped the pad of his paw half off. He just needs antibiotics and he'll be fine Smile

That's brill. You've done a very lovely thing.

GreenPolishToGo · 30/05/2017 10:35

That is lovely news. Poor old puss, that must have been hideously painful. Well done you for taking care of him.

Toddlerteaplease · 30/05/2017 10:42

Hope he's reunited with his owner. If not are you going to keep him?

DanceTheBlues · 31/05/2017 20:51

Just been told that he's been reunited with his owner Smile
For the best really, I'd have WW3 with my DP if I brought another cat home!
