Kitten has started talking - is this a worry, or normal?

Dkitten is 5 months old, and I've had since March now from a rescue centre.

Seems very happy, settled and we all love her loads.

She has started over the last week being more playful and "talking" more - running into the kitchen now making noises (not meowing as such, just chatting!) is this okay or a sign of something? If so, what?!

We have an appointment tomorrow for jabs anyway so will mention it then, but I'm just after some reassurance in mean time!

A photo of how gorgeous she is in return for any advice Grin

Sounds like a sign she is getting more confident! She may end up one of those vocal opinionated cats, but don't worry, you'll love her anyway!

Imissmy0ldusername · 11/05/2017 19:21

I have full on conversations with Joan Collins cat. Its lovely & perfectly normal :)

Fruitcocktail6 · 11/05/2017 19:21

I have a chatty cat. She's definitely got louder over time, compared to when she first came home.

Justmadeperfectflapjacks · 11/05/2017 19:22

She is telling you to cancel the vets!!

MrsLettuce · 11/05/2017 19:26

Has she been neutered yet? Increased vocalisation is a sign of them getting ready to come into season, IIRC. 5 months would be pretty early for that but not unheard of

shouldwestayorshouldwego · 11/05/2017 19:26

Ours is more chatty and bizarrely her meow is sounding more and more like hello.

HirplesWithHaggis · 11/05/2017 19:27

At that age, she's about due her first season. Cats in season are loud! Ask the vet about spaying her.

MrsLettuce · 11/05/2017 19:27

I also have chatty chats but they've been chatty since kittens, it wasn't something that sudddnly came on.

MycatsaPirate · 11/05/2017 19:29

After having three cats in the house which didn't really make any noise, cat 4 was a surprise as she never stops talking.

You can actually hold a conversation with her, she's hilarious.

She is also a black and white cat.

And bizarrely she 'talks' to the other cats as well, makes this little meeping noise at them all the time. Very amusing.

Fluffycloudland77 · 11/05/2017 19:35

Ours never shuts up.

MrTumblesbitch · 11/05/2017 19:35

Yes! We have full on conversations! It's rather lovely but I was worried as I know changes in behaviour in cats can mean they are hurt and I was worried I was having a lovely ole natter and she was actually in pain!

Thank you all so much for the reassurance - will talk to Vet tomorrow about neutering. She is desperate to go out so I was hoping to get it booked in asap anyway.

Ahh I feel much better now, thank you all Flowers

Sounds like she may be coming into her first season so make sure she stays indoors incase there are any Tom cats nearby.

TheLongRider · 11/05/2017 19:50

I currently have a talker who tells me all the gossip when he comes home. If you don't answer him he is most offended. You can see his tail droop.

It sounds like your girl is coming into season.

Weedsnseeds1 · 12/05/2017 02:06

I think it's just a sign that she'll never shit up again! My rescue was mute for a few months. One day I got a tiny micro-squeak. Now I get a non-stop running commentary on everything he's doing!

Weedsnseeds1 · 12/05/2017 02:07

Shut up, not shit up - ooops!

Hidingtonothing · 12/05/2017 02:15

Agree she might be gearing up for her first season, or she might just be finding her voice! I have a chatty cat, she didn't come to us til she was 6 months old and has definitely got more and more talkative in the 7 months she's been here, not season related as had her spayed shortly after we got her. I love it, she greets everyone, people, our other Dcat and the Ddogs, I find it really endearing Smile

UsedToBeAPaxmanFan · 12/05/2017 02:40

We adopted two rescue cats last year, a mother and daughter. They have both been spayed.

The daughter was very shy at first but is now the noisiest cat I've ever owned. She does not shut up during the day, especially if she can't find her mum. Luckily she goes quiet after 9pm and doesn't start up again until after breakfast.

It's quite endearing until you're on the phone or trying to listen to the radio. But she is gorgeous.
