Beds for cats to save my cushions??

Polkadot1974 · 06/05/2017 18:41

My cats are ancient and becoming annoying - they would previously sleep on cat beds but now it's anything they're not meant to be on. I ha e to hide cushions and throws and clean washing. One is moulting horrid fine hair that floats onto everything and the other keeps sitting in my pla e whenever I move. Shifting her every 10 minutes is a pain. I want them to be comfy and even ordered a shark bed which never came (see Christmas bargain thread)
What can I get them to sleep on that they'll like but which I can wash? Their own throws? Help! My sofa backs are plucked to chuff too as they're sleeping there too (only in last year or so) and as younger cats they never scratched furniture

I sound mean but I'm really not. Just struggling to keep on top of the house and cat hair is adding to my stress

Good luck with getting cats to sleep in a cat bed. Try a cardboard box Grin

You can turn cat hair into crafts.

Make them a bed?

Asmoto · 06/05/2017 18:52

Buy some cheap, washable throws and put them where the cats like to sleep.

My cats have turned their noses up at any special bed or cushion I've bought them.

If ever I leave a half-packed suitcase open on the floor, they make a beeline to sleep in it, though Grin.

Cheap supermarket throws , not that they will necessarily use them. Google the poem Cats Sleep Anywhere, it is so true!

I put an old jumper of mine (it had shrunk beyond wearing)in a cat bed, it fooled the cat for ages as I think she assumed I had left it there accidentally.

SmokeCloak · 06/05/2017 19:06

Sometimes the Pound shop have fleece throws in the pet bit.

halcyondays · 06/05/2017 19:11

I'm impressed they ever slept on cat beds in the first place Grin
Never had a cat that would sleep on anything actually designed for cats. Yy to fooling them with old jumpers or something.
At the moment our cat favours a towel that was left sitting on a bed.

Polkadot1974 · 06/05/2017 19:29

The cat bed was placed on the sofa I seem to recall!! Throws I really like will make them sleep there I bet! Or cushions I would hate to be ruined
Wonder if I have any clothes in charity pile I can fool them with?!
They really do sleep anywhere. They flip the cushions on sofa to horizontal so they can climb on them!

I think get a woolly blanket of some sort, maybe a furry fleece that will be irresistible to them and stick it on where they go. Old cats get cold too so maybe a radiator bed or very low power heat pad would be a magnet.

SmokeCloak · 06/05/2017 19:56

Yes my cat is currently asleep on a towel that was left on the chair in my DSs room.

NoSquirrels · 06/05/2017 19:59

Heat pads? Sound as if they want extra comfort now they're getting on. You can get the ones that reflect back their body heat.

Wolfiefan · 06/05/2017 20:03

We bought old girl a heated whelping pad. She loved that.
Sounds like they want comfort. Folded single duvet with fluffy throw on top? Easy to wash.
And if they are moulting could be they are struggling to groom. Run a brush over them each day. Furminator worked for us. Zoom
Groom might be better if they're sore.

BlahBlahBlahEtc · 06/05/2017 20:08

I'd try the cardboard box idea. Stick a blanket in one and I bet you a tenner your cats asleep in it within the hour.

Toddlerteaplease · 06/05/2017 20:50

My girls have custom made beds from Lazy days pet beds. They are brilliant. Waterproof, washable covers and loads if different types. No more expensive than the ones in shops. Mine have a squishy cushion and a donut bed. I also have a large cushion bed as a cushion for my self.

Ikea and Primark also good for cheap fleece blankets, maybe Wilko too. I've had to surrender one of my cushions as the cat loves it so much.

The only bed that's ever been a hit is this cheap one from Zooplus:

here
Currently out of stock but it's a bestseller so I imagine they'll be getting more in soon. It's fully washable. Mine seems to like the low lip on it, perfect for resting his chin or snuggling inside.

GingerKitCat · 06/05/2017 21:02

nb with the throws I just fold them into large squares and plonk them in a tempting place. That way they're a bit more snuggly and attractive to roaming felines Grin and I can lift and relocate it with the cat barely stirring if need be.

Polkadot1974 · 08/05/2017 22:01

I moved the fleeces covering the sofa arms and they went on there so am thinking new fleece on cushions out in places where they'll feel safe is my first try. Then a bed
