Looking at getting a kitten for DD but she is 4. Just worried she will be too young. Any advice??

Get a slightly older cat. Kittens and small children aren't always the best combination. Kittens are tiny and fragile, easily squashed or damaged by over-enthusiastic mauling.

I'd go for a youngish cat (1-3 years old) rather than a kitten. I've had both in the past and my cat (2.5 years when we got her) was a walk in the park compared to any kitten I ever had when I was growing up. She was past the biting and scratching phase and we had an idea what sort of temperament she had. We don't have children but do have young nieces and nephews and wanted a calm, tolerant cat. I don't think I'll ever opt for a kitten again now. Even my mum and sisters who have always been insistent on getting their cats as kittens are now thinking about rescue adults for their next cats after seeing what a sweetie I've ended up with.

Thanks for all the advice.
