please reassure me that I'm doing the right thing.

My baby girls are getting spayed next week. I'm so worried something will do wrong. This is in the cats best interest isn't it? It must be awful for them going into heat every two weeks.
But they won't have a clue what's going on and will be so stressed and I can't bare to look at their innocent little faces knowing what I'm going to put them through next week.

You must get them spayed! They will get very distressed when they come into season and you will be driven insane by them. Also, they will attract unneutered toms from far and wide. They put themselves in all kinds of danger to find a female cat . The toms will be outside your home yowling. Your girls will be inside yowling. It's horrible.

You'll be surprised how quickly they get over it. You are probably anthropomorphising a bit thinking " if I was going in for a hysterectomy...". As soon as the anaesthetic wears off they are pretty much back to normal. The vet will do hundreds of spays, miniscule risk of anything going wrong, you are doing the right thing.

I know I'm just being soft. I've had lots of pets before but these 2 are just the most adorable loving characters I've ever met and I've fallen head over heels for them . I keep crying at the thought of anything happening to them .

I understand the worry when they are your furry babies but they won't know what's happened and will recover quickly. There are far more risks for them if they aren't spayed.

Mine got spayed recently and once the wobbliness from the anaesthetic wore off she was back to normal, running around and jumping up so she can't have been in much pain. I'm assuming the pain of birthing a litter would be much worse.

As Vinorosso says - there are far more risks if they aren't spayed. I see thousands of just-spayed cats every year. They are all fine and they don't even seem to realise anything has happened. Don't worry!

They'll be fine OP. Once you've got them home and cosseted them your problem with be trying to get them to 'take it easy' .

We need pictures of these adorable kittens please can't believe I'm the first to say it.
And you are doing the right thing. Girl cats even if they avoid pregnancy have a high rate of pyometra - where the uterus fills with pus - it's life threatening. Much rare in fertile female humans so you can uncross your legs now! They'll be fine. You need to think of something busy to do whilst there in - - or a particularly busy day at work!

I sobbed all the way home from dropping mine off, I slept on the sofa with him overnight & he was biting my toes at 7 the next morning.

You are doing the right thing op. Loads of health benefits for your girls, saving your sanity, stopping unneutered toms from straying and getting injured in fights and giving all the cats and kittens in rescue centres more of a chance of finding a loving home because you are not enabling more kittens to be born.

This memory has just come back to me but my childhood cat climbed a ridiculously high tree her first trip outside after being spayed. My mum nearly had kittens seeing it.....

Definitely doing the right thing!

My cat is my baby too, I love her to bits, I hated the idea of her having an op but knew I had to do it. They warned me she might be dozy & lethargic when she came home....that kitten was jumping around like nothing happened!

She was 100% fine and I'd been far more worried than needed - they will be fine

What little sweethearts. You'll be surprised at how quickly they recover & they won't know any different, but will be much happier little girls. You'll be fine too.

Oh, aren't they beautiful!

Little M was swinging around his scratchy post as soon as he exited his carrier when I brought him home from his neuter. He also had an attack of the munchies. I gave him lots of small meals, with added water.

They will be fine. And you're absolutely doing the right thing for them.

Hi,

I was very anxious about taking our little cat to be spayed. She is my eldest son's cat and he is devoted to her. However, I am glad that we did because the vet discovered that she had a malformed uterus and if she had become pregnant, it would have been life-threatening for her.

She recovered quickly, but we had to buy a jacket for her after the operation because she found the cone too distressing and she tried to pull out her stitches when she was left without it.

The funny thing is, I had no anxiety at all when I took our two Toms to be snipped.

They are gorgeous! Definitely do it. Our next door neighbours many years ago didn't spay their two lovely girls. Both got pregnant with their first heat. One died giving birth, the other shortly after all the babies weaned. It was heartbreaking. Far less risk to yours in the op. I'm sure they'll be fine. Good luck!

I thought everything was fine but got up this morning to find little Edith had developed a hernia. She's now in emergency out of hours surgery.
