Newbie help please

Hi there, new to here but looking for advice. Our poor boy had to be pts last week and one of our other cats is really not coping. She is prowling the house and outside looking for him. She was never affectionate with me or DH but loved having cuddles with our boy. She has become a bit more clingy but shouts all day and all night. Am grieving badly myself but more worried about how to help her with her grief. Any ideas?

What a sad time for you all. I hope she comes through it very soon and yourself, of course. It's heartbreaking when they go. I haven't seen cat-grieving, even though I've had many cats over the years, they've always behaved in the same way when one of my cats has died.

I believe you shouldn't hurry to dispose of any items that belonged to your cat who's gone, but keep them in the same place, so that your cat can see and smell them, then eventually she'll realise that he's not coming back. Let her come to you when she needs comfort and don't change her routine with feeding time, etc. You could try playing with her to distract her a little bit. If she stops eating for more than a couple of days, this might affect her health, so you'll need to take her to the vet to be checked.

Have you tried a feliway plug in? It might relax her a little. I'm so sorry for your loss. Rescuing cats in the ME, I've sadly had as many pts as I've had rehomed. My heart breaks a bit more every time and never quite heals again

Orange and Trust - thanks for that. We have Feliway in the house already as we have always been a multi-cat house. We had 1 cat go missing 5 years ago and since then 2 rescue cats been pts. None of our cats have ever been affected this badly which is why I am stressing.

Bless her, you could try a warm hot bottle wrapped in something that still smells of your cats friend for her to snuggle. Worked for one of mine untill we got her a kitten to smother x
