How often do you ask people to come round when looking after your cat?

Our lovely neighbours have looked after our cat twice for us when we've been on holiday and I asked them to feed her morning and evening. However, we just looked after a cat for a friend and she only expected us to go once a day. I now feel bad for expecting our neighbours to go twice. What do you do?

I get my friend's daughter and her boyfriend to stay in the house. They both work so out during the day but someone there all night.

Oh dear! They did seem quite surprised when I said twice. We used to look after our neighbours cats when I was young and it was always am and pm so I thought that was normal!

Once a day here too, every other day sometimes because if the dog's not there the cat's food/ water stays and isn't 'contaminated'- the cat won't drink water once the dog has drunk out of it if he can help it!

They literally live next door so come twice. I have offered for them to feed him double in the morning but they don't mind coming twice. Cat people Smile

Twice a day. I wouldn't be happy with just once to be honest.

I'd say it depends on the cat, to an extent. One of mine is indoors only for health reasons and has random food allergies that mean she can only eat wet food, so she's a twice a day job. My lovely neighbour doesn't mind, and would probably come in more often if I asked her to.

But if I needed her to look after the other one - who goes to a cattery when we're away - she'd only need to come in once as she could leave dry food out for the little beast to graze on. And get really fat. Bottomless pit.

Although I've just realised your cat sitters are neighbours so twice a day isn't unreasonable if they're not too busy and are willing. Our cat feeders are family members who drive 15-25 mins depending on who it is, no chance of neighbour feeding where we are!

They are our next door neighbours and love cats. Maybe it's not so bad then! I'd love to look after their cat but their DM lives near and does it for them.

We look after next door's cats and they return the favour. We both do twice a day, seems normal to me.

Twice for us too, same when I look after any of my friends cats (we all liive within about 200m of each other though so not too onerous).
