Wet food, pouches or tins, help please

Ivy cat ate any food donated at the rescue, usually Felix.

I was told to buy the best I can afford and I bought Iams pouches and Wainwright's dry food.

She likes both but I noticed there was more meat content in Aldi select pouches than the Iams, so got some and she likes them to. They are a lot cheaper too!

I don't want to keep changing her food as I'm sure it's not good for her tummy. But I see some people give tinned food, is there a difference in quality and value?

How many pouches does your puss eat, Ivy is a petite cat but is getting through 3, too much or too little?

Any advice appreciated thanks.

His lordship (senior now) was on 3 pouches a day. After asking advice on here because of constant begging for food the main thing I learned was that pouches have a very high water content and don't keep them full for a long time. So I switched to a high quality dry food (I use applaws senior) and he has the recommended amount of that plus one pouch of gourmet Perle a day. He also drinks water throughout the day.

We've been at the new regime for about 2 months and we have occasional begging but he's much better than before. It's also much more cost effective than all wet food so how about trying to up the dry?

She does have dry as well, Wainwright's from P@H which is their own premium range.

Thing is she's favouring the wet (naturally). I looked a Applaws or James Wellbeloved so may change to those.

Yes his lordship favours the wet. The first few weeks after we changed over he was a nightmare to be around. Constantly begging and scratching for attention. Now he goes crazy for his one pouch but then grazes throughout the day on the dry. The switch has also massively reduced his habit of wolfing down his food then sicking it straight back up.

Is the Wainwright's a complete food? Is so you could possibly be overfeeding if she's eating the recommended amount of that plus the wet.

I'd also recommend zooplus for dry food. Very reasonable prices

She's not really eating the dry and yes it's a complete food.

I'm just looking on zoo plus, I'm going to order Applaws dry I think to see if that fills her up!

If you're choosing to go down the dry route then be strong .

His lordship is the fussiest cat on the planet and wouldn't entertain the idea of dry food. I just stood firm and refused to give in to him and he eats it now.

It's better for their teeth too. His lordship had most of his teeth out 2 years ago after eating only wet food for years. His teeth were disgusting according to the vet.

I realise I sound like a sales person for dry food.

If you have a dry food refusenik this powder added to wet food is very good for their teeth (it says dog but it's for either)

there's a tiny scoop inside the tub & you add it once a day. I have one cat who appears not to chew anything (she does eat biscuits but swallows them whole) so I'm hoping this will stop her teeth getting too horrible.

I have 3 cats OP, they have 6-7 pouches a day between them (Felix - they love Felix - I've bought more expensive food from zooplus but they're not keen, the sods) plus a bowl of Royal Canin neutered female biscuits out all day. They don't eat equal amounts of the Felix though, I reckon the biggest cat probably has 3-4 pouches.

Seniorboy has about 1.6 pouches of Nature's Menu Country Hunter a day. Plus extras. (Cold meat at lunchtime and a Lick E Lix tube for 'pudding' in the evening.) The Country Hunter seems to have less moisture in it than his previous food because he drinks more when on it. (But he spends most of his day in 'inactive pursuits' )

I have two cats. Wendy prefers wet tin food, she will eat the biscuits but not that often.
Tiger preferes biscuits . She will have a little wet food. She drinks lots of water.
They tend to eat when I get up in the morning and just before I go to bed.

Harry has two pouches a day, either standard Natures Menu or the Country Hunter, and James Wellbeloved biscuits for lunch. There's hardly any liquid in the NM pouches, it's all meat.

He'll only eat certain flavours of NM (as I've found out to my cost!) and he's more choosy about his biscuits now. He has senior biscuits but I don't bother with senior pouches.

Our big boy has 2 pouches a day morning and evening, and a bowl of biscuits for munching in the day
