Swollen face

So boy cat came home this morning just as I was off to work with a wound to the top of his head, (as he often gets into scrapes we just give them a clean and keep an eye on them or we would be at the vets every other week) had no time to try and get hold of him to clean it but it only looked little so decided I would do it tonight when I got home.
Fast forward 10 hours and I get home to a cat with a swollen face/nose, I have phoned the vets and they are going to see him tomorrow as they were just closing. He seems OK ish in himself, maybe a bit more sleepy but as he was out all last night he often does then sleep all day/evening, is drinking and we have taken the food away. (He though he was getting wet food) purring away and breathing normally. I cant see anything in the top of his mouth.
I have cleaned the wound and its bigger than first thought, but 10 hours seems a bit quick for the amount of swelling.
Any ideas?

Probably infected, I'd keep him in overnight so he doesn't sod off to hide somewhere.

He is being kept in overnight with no food just in case...
10 hours just seems a bit quick for an infection? It was clean this morning and defiantly not their when he went out.
He is being very cuddly, I think he is feeling a bit under the weather.
I wish I had cleaned it this morning, he was just not happy with me looking at it too much and I was in a rush.

Cats' teeth and claws are filthy things - an infection could well have set in quickly.

Probably an abscess - it will either burst spectacularly, or the vet will drain it. One of our cats once had 4 syringe gulls taken out of his face Envy (not envy)

It depends, in my own experience, whether the skin has been punctured or whether a flap has been opened. (Sorry if TMI.) The vet is best placed to deal with it, I reckon.

Its an abcess that has burst or an infected wound. He is on antibiotics for a week and I have to clean the wound daily. Poor boy.

The good news is that they usually respond well to the antibiotics, ime, and fingers crossed he'll be feeling much better very soon
