Problem with eyes

Ollie has gone for a dental this morning and I mentioned the shouting
She's checked his eyes and said plenty of light getting through to the retina but his pupils have a really sluggish response. She put the light on them and they barely shrunk. Anyone had any experience with this?
She said his teeth are fairly good, and she thinks he's about 8 but if he's had a good diet it's hard to tell and he could be older

Good luck Ollie. Do t have any advice, but if he does have bad sight he'll adapt.

She said it's odd so wanted another vet to look but it could be inflammation or a growth. Will have to wait until later

Is the shouting a new thing?

No, he goes through phases of it

He is round from the GA and shouting crossly apparently and I have an appointment with the vet to discuss his eyes when I collect him

Eyes seemed OK in a brighter room. Root of tooth was rotten so it's been removed. BP fine, they said he was anxious at first but he sat with his paw out for them to have it redone twice

Oh thank goodness for that! I was thinking of him all day. Maybe he's been shouting because he's been in pain from his teeth.

He puts his paw out for a BP. Are you sure he's really a cat?

Not entirely. She said his BP was high and he was nervous but by the second time he curled his paw under his head and slept while they did it

If he does have Siamese in him - which I believe, as you know - they don't always have great eyes in later life. Keep us informed?

Of course. She couldn't say how old he is and wondered if he was older than 8. He had some gingivitis
The vet who removed the tooth root said "Ollie? I took a tooth out of its nose!"

The good news is that the genetic 'biggie' is something called PRA (Progressive Retinal Atrophy) - but that is not painful. (Nor, I'm afraid, curable.) Not saying that's what it is of course, but if he has a sight issue, maybe just cater for that on an 'As if' basis? They adapt seriously well to indifferent eyesight.

Seniorboy's eyesight is very very questionable. I don't think he's completely blind but he certainly has serious problems - although at his age, visual issues rather go with the territory. (And nothing can be seen clinically.) I just take care not to move things around and to have lights in dark places as 'points of reference' for him - in case he has a few vestiges of sight left. He's indoor already so no issues of outside.

Both of mine refused to eat at the vets. Despite them tempting them with all sorts. They were a bit worried. Both had heads in food bowl within five minutes flat!

Cats love a clear routine. Some cats carry it to extremes even.
