Fluffy cat - dirty bum

Have spoken to the vet and they've suggested dealing with it myself!!

It appears she was taken away from mum a bit early and isn't great on cleaning down there!

Do I wash or trim? What's the easiest and less painful route? If it makes any difference I'm the only adult!

Trim it. One of my long hairs had a dirty bum last week and I took her to the vet who happily cleaned her up and trimmed her bum. My girls will sit beautifully still at the vets rather than it being a battle of wills at home. So for me it worth the small amount they charge for it.

I'm on my own and although mine are very good. It would definitely be a two Person job!

I did ask at the vet but they suggested I should do it at home - going to have to give it a go aren't I?

You could always book her in with a groomer, for a hygiene cut.

If you DIY, don't use scissors, and ensure the trimmer has a guard on it. Cats' skin is really delicate, and they don't show pain like humans do.

Find a vet that will do it. No reason why they shouldn't. Or yes find a groomer. Mine have one.

I trim my cats bum fur (Maine Coons and VERY fluffy bums).Not too short as I don't want to risk cutting them but down to an inch or so. I do it when they are asleep :D

I have shampooed them before now but believe me, trimming is easier (and less painful..for you!)

I have a Maine Coon and she has a ridiculously fluffy rear end. Trimming is definitely easier than cleaning although mine generally keeps herself clean without intervention from me. When she's had a bad tummy (or managed to sit on a plate with a sticky chilli jam on) cutting it out was far easier than washing it out. I also keep some pure water baby wipes just in case.
