What's wrong with Felix?

The cat food that is. Got a 7 year old cat who turns his nose up at most things but will reliably eat Felix. Isn't it good quality?

You mean the cans? It's OK but I think it contains cereal. Butchers Classic is better. However I would really only worry about dry food, not about wet food. So if he likes it and seems healthy then I think that's fine.

Following with interest. Ours were fed felix at the rescue, and I have continued at home as they do love it, but I top it up with Royal Canin biscuits for supper. Mine always seem to be hungry, but are a healthy weight.

Eatingcheeseontoast · 23/01/2017 18:36

He eats about 6 sachets a day. He's 7 kg though and not fat. He seems happy and healthy.

Ah sachets, not tins. I really wouldn't worry about it.

PosiePootlePerkins · 23/01/2017 18:58

6 sachets, wow! Mine have two each, plus the biscuits. I like to think it gives them moisture although I known there's not much meat content.

Ours will eat 6 pouches a day of Felix too. Cat crack.

Oh my! I knew my cats were a bit peculiar with their food - won't touch most "human" food like roast chicken, beef or lamb - but despite them loving their Felix they don't get through the 1.5 pouches a day they are offered (1 at night, the half in the morning). They do have Royal Canin Indoor cat dry near enough ad lib & the occasional Royal Canin anti-hairball dry for a change, and I have seen them ignoring Felix put out for them for more than about an hour in favour of the dry.

However they do still go mad for their Dreamies, and the WEbbox soft sticks, so they aren't completely un-natural Grin

Felix is full of cereal and the 'named' meat is only 4%, I believe. God knows what the rest of the meat is. It's false economy because cat's guts can't digest it as efficiently as higher-quality wet food - at least that's been our experience.

Our lad (also nearly 7kg at this time of year) started off on low-quality food and would wolf down 5 sachets a day too. Now on higher quality stuff he has the equivalent of 2 sachets (100g mornings and evening, sometimes raw food) plus a small handful of high-quality biscuits like Applaws. So he eats much less bulk but processes it much better.

However, I do suspect he goes self-service with the garden McDonalds quite a lot too, just that we don't always see the mice he catches.

Eatingcheeseontoast · 24/01/2017 16:27

What sort of high quality sachets do you use? Our cat won't touch human food.

I am in the process of switching my kittens to wainwrights wet food (pets at home own brand). It has a high amount of named meat and no cereals and no added sugar. They seem to be liking it so far

Butchers is good and easily bought from the supermarkets. Mine likes Lilly's but they telly you 3-5 trays a day and they are 90p each!

TheCakes · 25/01/2017 00:33

Mine liked Wainwright's for a while, then he seemed to go off it. I have to vary his wet food, so he eats cat soup, the odd sachet of something in gravy, or scraps from our Sunday roast.
If he had his way it would be dry food and warm milk all the way.

TheCakes · 25/01/2017 00:34

Does anyone weigh dry food? I let him free feed, but I worry that being an indoor cat he'll get tubby.

Katietwinmum · 25/01/2017 00:45

My cats wouls eat Felix . Whiskas was a must not buy as they would go mad for it and break into cubboards and eat till they cpuld not move. Sachets chewed with thousands of tiny holes to get every bit of gravy out. Would tyrn noses up at kit e kat / purina / sheba . Absolutey loved cat food from lidl - lamb and mint . Stinks to high heaven but they tbink its delicious.

They love the cat stars biscuits as well.

As long as they are happy and healthy I let them eat what they prefer. Love a can of tuna and tuna sandwiches will be stolen if unnatended !
