Renal cat food

DCat needs the special renal cat food, dry and wet, which is proving fucking expensive.

Does anyone source specialist diet foods online for cheaper than supplied through the vet, and if so which sites would you recommend?

I use Zooplus but i also recommend looking at www.felinecrf.org/which_foods.htm for useful info...

Can I ask why does your cat need renal food? We were told we needed renal food for one of ours, so my DH did an awful lot of research and we spoke to a lot of people trying to work out the difference between foods and a realistic option. For our cat, it was due to a blocked bladder and he ultimately needed a low salt diet. In terms of what is in the box, indoor cat food had the same requirements as a special renal food, so we go for that.

sugarplum he has a variety of health issues. When we adopted there was already a heart murmur. Then we noticed that he was losing weight rapidly despite being hungry all the time. Overactive thyroid was diagnosed and he is on medication for that. At the same time poor kidney function was suspected as it often goes along with thyroid issues and a renal diet was prescribed. Then the weight loss started again, blood tests show thyroid under control but high calcium indicative of a tumour. X-rays found nothing but he is still on the steroids daily too. Of course these make him hungry so he is guzzling down £2-3 worth of food a day.

Another vote for Zooplus but I did get it cheaper through Quidco once at Waitrose Pets, worked out cheaper per pouch

Thanks for the Zooplus tip off. 12 pouches at my vet is £11.98 while 24 pouches are £14.99 on Zooplus! Wish I had asked the question earlier!
