Just dropped her off, why do I always feel like a cruel and heartless cow when I know it's the right thing to do for them? It's going to be a long day

She'll be fine. She won't even notice anything has been done (as long as she doesn't have to wear a cone).

When do you pick her up?

I can ring at 2.30 to see how she is and then pick up at 4.30 so not all that long to go. Think neutering feels hard because they're not ill so it feels like you're putting them through it unnecessarily if that makes sense? I know it is necessary and wouldn't dream of not neutering but I beat myself up like this every time for some reason

What you said makes sense - but it's still the right thing to do for her. How old is she?

I'm still beating myself up over taking my timid little girl for her boosters. Only had her 3 months but she was in the shelter for ages so they were due. She was terrified and the look on her little face when she realised she had no choice but to go in the cat carrier is stuck in my mind 2 weeks later! I know full well it was for her own good.

Seniorboy was a vet phobic when he came to me, Living. I just treat vet visits etc as 'business' and he's become used to them. The big thing for him, I reckon, is that he gets to come home after them.

Yes I'm looking forward to showing her that she always comes home cozie, she's 9 months old and hasn't had much stability prior to coming to us a couple of months ago.

Well she might be just a little doolally after the GA so be prepared for that this time. (Or she might not be - you can't really tell in advance.)

I always go right back to normal routine after a standard vet's visit. They seem to prefer that.

Let me rephrase that.

'It seems to suit them best.' (Some cats might well prefer to be hand-fed prawns but my lot aren't having that and, these days, don't expect it. )

No I'm fairly 'no fuss' too, I suspect she'll just be glad to get back to what's familiar so it will be more or less business as usual. I've made sure her favourite blanket is where she likes it and I might boil her a bit of chicken just for her first meal but I'm expecting her to bounce back pretty quick. Have just rung and she's doing fine, not long at all til I can pick her up now

Good news Hiding! My last little girl bounced back very quickly, although she was a bit dopey .

She's home, bit groggy and nervous but ok. Thanks for the support today, I'm a total wuss I know but I love her so much

I always head for bed when one of my lads comes back after a GA. With them and a movie.

She came home in a buster collar, I checked it as it looked tight and it was ok but couldn't have been on any tighter without being too tight for comfort. Little bugger has taken it off within an hour of being home. She has no external stitches, my gut instinct is to leave it off, can see little point in putting it back on tbh, I'm pretty sure however tight I put it on she will manage to remove it again, she does have quite a small head. She doesn't seem to be bothering with the wound but does spend a lot of time upstairs so am a bit worried I won't be able to supervise her as much as I would like. Wwyd please? She's had a bit to eat and is asleep atm.

I'd leave the cone off. My cat didn't have one after she was spayed a few weeks ago and never bothered with the wound.

As long as she isn't paying too much attention to the wound, I would leave it off.

My boys won't wear one. Luckily, I've not had any issues and they don't 'worry' their wounds. I always make sure to stay with them on the first evening, though. (They tend to go daft and try to do silly walks and jumps so I like to be around to dissuade them. That's just mine though.)

She's settled for now, I'm checking on her every few minutes. Going to leave collar off and see how she goes, thanks all

Pleased she's home, am sure she'll be a bit out of sorts tonight but no doubt back to normal tomorrow. Call the vets if you're worried about the collar being off. At least it's done now so no worry of unplanned pregnancies.
I was 7 or 8 when our kitten was spayed and remember going to collect her. She got out the carrier on the way home and managed to get outside sooner than she should have and of course climbed up the tallest tree nearby. Feisty little thing she was!

Yep we have a feisty one too DD is 8 and besotted with her, she couldn't wait to pick her up from the vets today.

They get over it with remarkable speed, she'll be fine!

How is she today?

She's grand thanks cozie, pretty much back to normal and not bothering with her wound so all good. I'm in trouble now though, someone I know has a litter of kittens and I stupidly looked at the photos so now I'm wondering whether I couldn't find room for just one more See you back here in about 6 months?
