A year ago I was told 'we are not getting a cat - please' by my lovely DH.

A year later has has 'accidentally' said he loves our cat TWICE who is at this moment purring on my lap. Cats are so misunderstood - I'm so glad we got ours.

DH was very much anti cat. I got one any way. He sings a song to the cat now, not within earshot of our other cat so that he won't get upset.

Strange innit? My father hates cats, (threw pepper at their faces, drowned kittens for pence ) and my sister took on that hatred. Since she took on her own opinions, she has 9 and luffs them...

Twas v. satisfying when my father came to stay, and ran downstairs with a face like asking me to remove the hissing beast from underneath the duvet. Bambos was the most chilled out, lovely cat a body could meet. I suspect he sensed my fathers' guilt and shame...

What a cute kitty

My DH always refused to have a cat, saying he was allergic to them. He's absolutely not, just thought he didn't like them.

He eventually caved in & we got a rescue kitten. DH & 15 year old cat are now the best of friends.

Cats are lovely, even when they are being little shits 😀. I described it to one of my friends as " like having a child, except they're nice", which got me a few odd looks!

It's weird - why are so many people so anti-cat? I find it oddly aggressive . I was told the other day that I couldn't possibly want a dog in the future because I like cats and you are either one or the other. Then I was told that scientifically cats have no relationship with people. I told AyeAyeCat this - whilst she was licking my face.

Well cats don't, generally, do what you ask them to - unlike dogs who sit there with a 'How can I serve you?' look on their face.

That doesn't mean there's no relationship though.

Cozie - absolutely

I love that she is not as needy as a dog. But she still sits by the door when she hears us coming in, she miaows at us until we give her a cuddle, she talks to me, she keeps me company on the toilet - whether I ask her to do so or not...

I love dogs and cats equally. I'm not getting another cat though as I worry about them if I go on holiday too much. But I take my dog with me.

My partner had a dog when he was young, and his son had various hamsters growing up, but he was allergic to cats. Then he met me, had very little reaction to my cats (a very good sign that we are meant to be!) and now spends most evenings with one on his lap, chatters to them all in the morning, gives them each some special "me" time, and, this morning I found that one of them was in the bathroom with him.

I think I've successfully trained him in the ways of cat ownership now!

What a beautiful cat FishyPie! I posted when my DH finally accepted the cat too

Now, I hear him talking to the cat all the time and he'll almost greet the cat before he greets me!

He also has got into the terrible habit of indulging the visiting black cat every single time he/she miaows at the door and I have to tell him off for sneaking him/her treats. His Highness doesn't seem to mind another cat's presence and keeps trying to snuggle on the black cat's preferred chair. His Highness does get a tad confused as to why I hide his food bowl in a cupboard when the black cat comes visiting though.

I think DH is hoping black cat is a stray and I'll let him adopt, but black cat is microchipped so I think someone would miss him/her.

AyeAye, a leading psychologist (will have to find out who) wrote a paper indicating people who dislike cats for no reason have deep, underlying issues!

We have reserved a kitten at a local rescue centre and while my H is in agreement that we can get a family cat, he's not delighted, it's going to be the kids and my cat.

I hope he learns to love her like your DH has.
