Will be leaving us today. She has declined tremendously over the past week. She is 16 or 17 years old, we think. My husband found her as a kitten on some tough city streets. I became her cat mummy when I married dh ten years ago. She is tiny but had a will of iron. Goodbye my warrior princess. I hope you will visit me in my dreams....

HoHoHammered, that was such a lovely way to say goodbye to your beloved dog. I wish she was able to eat something special but she really isn't even moving. I hope she can hear all the things I am whispering in her ears at least.

I'm sure she is. She will be comforted by your touch and cuddles too

This was my Nero. He was a rescue from Ireland. We got him in 2008 as an adult already. We don't know how hold he was or anything about his history.

He was a very quirky dog. Never house trained fully, hated walking so he had his own doggy buggy , had sore paws if he did walk too much and that many allergies he could only eat one brand of dog food. Fish4dogs. He was allergic to rice, chicken, beef, turkey...you name it, he was allergic to it

He hated me Dh. They had a really love hate relationship but that was just who he was. I hope he's enjoying himself at rainbow bridge now and he's sat there waiting for his new friend to come and join him. He will look after your darling cat for you.

I held her all afternoon. She slept on my chest. Our last hours together were peaceful and calm.

I'm so sorry for your loss, SecretWitch - it's absolutely a bereavement, and hurts like hell. I'm so very sorry. You gave a (beautiful) cat a loving home, just think of how her life could have been, yet she had you, to love and look after her.

buckingfrolics, you are right. It hurts like hell. Almost a physical pain. I am more at peace now though. The vet said we were absolutely right to have made our decision. She was very kind to us and Amber. Bless vets everywhere.

We let our old girl go on Tuesday at 17. She wasn't even an affectionate cat but she was loved and we are all surprised at how much we miss her. There's an empty spot on the rug by the fire and there shouldn't be.

Sorry for your loss. It's so hard to do but do it we must. I've been in that position too so know how you feel.

I'm so sorry for your loss. It was so sad to lose old girl but we had 17 lovely years. She had a peaceful ending. I stroked her and whispered to her and told her that I loved her and thanked her for being my cat. Told her I would see her again and she would see her son (and probably give him a wallop! He often needed putting in his place!) I kissed her head when she had gone.

You all made me cry this morning..in a good way. The best of MN was right here with me. Thank you for understanding how heartbreaking it is to lose a very loved pet. ❤️

I'm so sorry Secret that your darling girl has gone ; it is utterly heartbreaking to lose a much loved family pet. She was obviously very much loved and had such a lovely life with you; you saved her from a frightening and uncertain hard life on the streets and that is a wonderful thing that you have done

When you feel up to it, a piece of amber jewelry made in her honour? It can be comforting. (speaking from experience). I'm sad for your loss, but happy that she found someone to love her, and give her a long and happy life, if that makes sense?
