do cats get bigger/fatter/heavier in Winter

I am only having a cat since April this year. 5 year old gorgeous rescue tiger.

He was slimmer when we got him - 4kg bang on. He now is about 4.35 kg.

is this normal winter weight gain or shall I consider cutting down on food for him?

he is on a largely raw diet - about 100gr/daily, i.e.~2.5% of his body weight.

He sounds lovely. That is a fine weight. Cats move much less in winter, and they do also grow thicker winter fur, so weight gain is normal.

Relax and keep up the snacks!

My cat always turns into a little fatty in the winter. She doesn't like to go outside in the cold/wet and gets a little paunch. Loses it every summer. I wouldn't worry too much.

The Snowshoe is a racing snake in summer and we don't see him from dawn til dusk but he's a lazy fatso in the winter. Definitely a layer of blubber goes on in autumn.

She's very slinky and skinny usually but will stay chunky till the end of Feb and then she quickly loses it

Yes, my black cat is a right old tubster at the moment, although most of it seems to be extra fur! She's not eating any more, in fact is eating a lot less as the number of hunts has gone down a lot but is spending much longer dozing in front of the fire or on a bed. Cats really have the right idea, don't they?

Mine is a year round lardarse but more so in winter. Not helped by his (already dense) coat thickening and adding visual bulk. He spends more time inside, loafing around.

Yes, they do seem to. Their winter coat also comes in. Mine has his winter ruff and you can hardly see his face when he snuggles into it!

yeah normal for winter just wait for the post winter shed i recommend a slicker brush

Yes cats do, all animals naturally put on weight in the Autumn to see them through winter Then loose it in the spring.......humans do too

One of mine does (she's a bit overweight normally and has very thick fur) the other, who is naturally slim doesn't seem to.

Both of my long haired girls get a winter coat as well. Was panicking a bit the other day as they'd had a really good groom and I could feel fattycat's shoulder blades. I was worried she'd lost weight instead of fur! Both a bit chunky.
